xr2 200hp

hi there can any one tell me what to look out 4 when buyin a xr2 200hp 1989?? seen it on ebay on the back of a boat and thinking of getting it 2 put on a phantom can any one help dont want to be buying a dog thanks matt

1989 xr2 200hp
Dont think so,
If std its 150 then 186 it went then to 200hp with the last models,
Correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

Without checking the block numbers it is hard to see from the dark pictures but it does look like an old 2.4. It does look like a selection of different era parts as well. ie block mid section & gearbox, but like anything you pays your money you takes your chances it could be great but then again it could be a very expensive selction of spare parts.

If it is a 2.4 bridgeport bare in mind pistons are getting harder and harder to get hold of new.

Chris Lewis Racing and if I recal the Culpen's Merc dealers back then told me in the 80's the then new 2.0LTR XR2 was rated and dynod at 167HP at prop seem to remember it revved slightly freer than the 150HP engine used in 3C then allegedly it was upped to around 180ish and finally around 200ish hp, spoke with Michael Frode in the early 90's seem to remember him saying he had done a lot of development work on them don't know if that's true though, Neil Holmes new a thing or two about them as well
