Yamaha Hydra Drive - advice?

Can anyone help?

what the difference between these yam hydradrives and say merc bravo's or volvo dp's

in terms of gears or clutch

my brothers has broken, gear wasnt engaging, no nasty noises
and its has taken a few marine engineers 8 weeks to discover its knackered
and suggest £3k bill

They have a multi plate clutch arangement, instead of dog gears (Alpha) or cone clutch (bravo). it's more like a Borg Warner velvet drive in operation, very smooth engagement compared to the merc/volvo styles.

Bill Brown ('Old Phart') on the forum has dealt with them for years, he'd be ya best bet for advise or work.
