The good old RYA

UKFFORC are supposed to be racing this weekend at Weymouth in the penultimate round of their National Championship, but following the coroners report on the Dover incident the RYA have suspended all powerboat racing for all OCR style boats with immediate effect. This will include not just UKFFORC, but OCR, + P1 Superstock....
For our teams, some of whom were already on their way to the event, all of who had accommodation booked and paid for, teams who have paid out for licences, new boats, engines for the 2011 season, the phone call at 4:30pm yesterday was just another kick in the teeth from the good old RYA.
Whilst every club has its own members and its own way of thinking, this is just another kick in the teeth for the sport as a whole.

No one knows the whole story yet, hopefully it'll all be resolved soon. It's only a temporary measure at the mo.

I'm sure the RYA have not taken this action for the fun of it - it must be a very necesary thing to do.

Hopefully another step towards putting our sport into order and learning from things that have happened.

I have!

Never too hard to make a Phone Call in the afternoon to hear the facts - Beats posting on a Forum without them.

Rya Knee Jerk Reaction

At best a knee jerk reaction, at worst an attempt by an organisation that doesn't appreciate powerboats to close down the sport.

If it comes down to a legal battle, perhaps the Human Rights Act might be a good starting block.

Part II
The First Protocol

Article 1
Protection of property

Every natural or legal person is entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of his possessions. No one shall be deprived of his possessions except in the public interest and subject to the conditions provided for by law and by the general principles of international law.

Jeez, talk about taking it too far firefly!!
Why don't we all just wait for the press release on monday. Everyone's still free to go out and do what they want, no one's telling you that you can't use your boat!

My main observation is that the press release would have been best served at the time of the event cancellations.

Sadly, they didn't have you working for them.

About time you applied for a job.

I dont think so John!

I like most, just wish to be a competitor in the sport (which alone is proving to be a struggle!), Its always a failing to assume that those who want to compete, wish to organise.

My comment above still stands though, had the RYA given a statement at the time of the cancellation, then they would have looked more credible.

We are lucky that ski racing isn't governed by the RYA but i'm sure it doesn't help when people feel the need to post half a story!!! why say you have facts but don't share them? its like you need to make people think you are better than them!!! Whats the fekkin point?? just makes you look stupid IMO.

And you felt that helped the situation? What we need is for everyone to stay calm about it and hope for the best. I too am sure the decision hasn't been taken lightly, but I doubt I'm at liberty to start discussing any reasons on here.
It's a great shame this has happened, especially for formula future and weymouth, but the last thing we want is a panic amongst racers resulting in people dropping out.

Edit: I will add, rest assured if changes are made that are negative or threatening to the sport I will fight to the end to ensure the future of all classes, especially basic. I just hope they can see how open for entry classes like basic racing need to remain.
