Rochester Quadrajet base gasket choice...

Hi guys,

There's a long time ago I did not post something here. I hope you are all fine ;-)

I have a question regarding my Mercruiser 5.7L of 1986. I rebuild the complete carb and finaly I have two possibilities for the base gasket.

Here you have a picture of the plenum when I removed the carburetor from it. Only this gasket was present.

What is your experience with each configurtion of gasket on this engine and wich one do I have to place on mine?

many thanks, xavier

Xavier.
Only use the "open gasket", top one in picture. The bottom pictured gasket is for the throttle plate to carb body joint.

Hello Drag Racer,

Thanks for your reply. My carburetor is completely assembled (check the joined picture) and I have those two gaskets in hand.
So, if I understand in a right way, the kit is delivered with two base gaskets and I have to use the open one, and the other one is used if we add a spacer between the plenum and the carburetor.

Am I right?

thanks, xavier

here's exploded view of the Rochester...this gasket seems to be bottom one and is not open. I'm lost but if you say this is the open one, I'll use it ;-)

thanks, xa

Hi guys. Some details about the carb. We can see two gaskets, the thidr is under the flame screen, the base one is not shown. My question.is: is it normal that I have two base gaskets when my carb is fully assembled?

Thanks a lot, xa.
