So these were my thoughts when Marc first mentioned plans for the race:
"Excellent, another basic race in the solent, it's close to home, no ferry to catch, cheap entry, my boat's a lot closer to being race ready than it was before cowes, a few hours over the next few weekends and it'll be ready "
I've now got 2 weeks before the race, work tuesday - saturday 8.30 - 5.30 and am away in London all of next weekend.
The casual attitude towards the race has now become determination...
So please check out the attached picture (my boat under DeWalt floodlight at 11 o'clock tonight)and inform me regarding the following question,
At what point does determination become sheer stupidity?!?
I WILL make it in time!!

North of Bembridge to about Cowes harbour mouth, they would like to see IRO 20 'marshal' boats with blue lights to help control the race area. This is not safetly or rescue, this is exclusivly 'marshalling'.
To race from Cowes -St Catherines to Bembridge and back to cowes via St Catherines, not passing north of Bembridge we we given permission already, and they did not need a safety plan, marshalling plan or risk assesment for that course. It is the section that falls under the QHM that is the issue. I was asked if I remembered the racing 'incident' a few years ago. Aparently that is still in their minds. When 'Negotiator' ran the RTI he had to reduce speed to 60 knots ? in the Portsmouth QHM area. It was a condition of getting permission.
We'll see what happens on Thursday. I will leave coneston early and try fix this. We are almost 1 to 1 support boats to race boats, but they are thinking in the region of 45 support/safety/marshal boats for the event.

The Race Is On.
This morning I had quite a long and productive meeting with the three harbourmasters.
Contrary to popular belief, they were helpful and wanted to assist in getting the event running, despite their conserns for the safety of all Solent users.
We discussed their problems and issues, and have resolved all of the conserns.
So: The Round the Island race is on on the 17th. There are some small changes to the event, the most noticeable is that we are now going to go CLOCKWISE to get clear of the sensitive area right at the start of the race. There are also small course changes through the Portsmouth Harbour area, but essentially these are not significant.
For those that were waiting to see what happened before entering: time is almost up.
We have FOUR places left for the event
These slots will be allocated on a first come first served basis, with a cheque for the £90 entry fee and a completed entry form.
As luck would have it, this event co-insides with the 2007 winter video night at Drivers Dry Berthing.
Drivers Dry Berthing will provide BBQ facilities so you can burn your own meat, and provide the tables, chairs and the venue for us to sit in...
NEW RACE INSTRUCTIONS will be avalable from tomorrow morning, with the new information!

Length of the blade is not stipulated, however, it needs to be sheathed. However, if you have a knife that big, I dont think the Scrutineer will argue the point too much!

Have not long e-mailed marc to let him know my boat wont be together in time so I can't see why my place isn't free, unless there's a waiting list...

There is actually a waiting list as all slots are filled, *BUT* not all cheques are in.
Max has withdrawn, but his place was filled from the list of entry forms faxed in..
Entry forms with a cheque will get preferance, but at this time the race has been fully subscribed...
I will publish final placings on Thursday, and if there are any slots, then we will put in those who have entered too late to grab a place, but who did enter.
Next years event will have a larger field, as more planning and longer planning will have gone into the event, and we will be allowed an open number of entrants!
