Thanks Gav. As far as I remember the actual fee is £240 not £260 and assuming it works and everyone is happy it will be in place for 07.

it has been confirmed by the RYA that the basic restricted license IS £260 not £240....

the littlehampton races can both be raced on event licenses, but if you hold a basic restricted license they count as seperate events!

so thats a saving of £80 against a national license and i still cant enter all of the basic races

Perhaps I have got the wrong end of the thread here guys but the release that I was sent said:

"Following this week's meeting of the ORC, and in response to views expressed by competitors who asked for more than 2 Event Licences, the ORC/RYA has decided to initiate a new basic licence category as follows:

A Basic Restricted Licence which will entitle any competitor to race in any of the remaining basic races as listed on the 2006 calendar for a fee of £260. Competitors who have been issued with Event Licences may have up to two (£120) credited against this new restricted basic licence. This Licence category, effective immediately for the 2006 season, will require a standard Powerboat Medical and can be applied for on a standard Powerboat Licence application form. Competitors using this category will not be entitled to be awarded National Points".
John Puddifoot"

It says it will entitle any competitor to race in any of the remaining basic races as listed on the 2006 calendar, is that a problem ? Surely that was what you guys were asking for and we as the ORC responded with ?

FWIW, I read that as:

New licence as from 'now'.

You can do all remaining basic events/races this season with it.

Depending on how many basic/event licences you've already used this season, it could cost as little as £140, however, you will need to get a medical.

------------------------------------------------

If I'm reading that right, why have the RYA told Gav different?

Jon, I agree with you, that was the original concept for the licence to test the water and see exactly how many races people will do.

Cool, that's great!

All we need now, is some confirmation that this is the case from the RYA.

Surely this new licence allows you to compete in as many basic races as you like - no limits on races or events?

Only limit being on the number of events available from orgainisers I think.

Take something so simple and make it complex................
Got a feeling it's a bit of an Indian giver what with all the 2006 wording.

How easy can it be??
Licence categories
Restricted Basic – two event
Basic – any number of basic events during the season
National – any number of basic or national events
International – as above but international events also
Super-licence - available to anybody with a large enough chequebook regardless of experience level as long as you know the right people & move in the right circle

Upgrades between licences – credit taken for monies paid for previous licences issues in same year only.

Ohhh am I gonna get payback or what

Or as they put it
There after as the party of the first party on a two race carry over five race total of the second party in a leap year from now to the end of the season but inclusive of postage but not if you have raced two races of the five race total

All joking aside RYA / ORC response here was terrific and have reacted very well. Only qestion is will this catagory run for 2007

I think it's getting time to put this thread to bed.

The published statement on the rya site, not word of mouth, constitutes the rule, and Simon as representative of the RYA and member of the ORC has already validated it. I think it's fairly unambiguous wording as far as this season goes.

The £140 (assuming 2 events already done) upgrades to a basic restricted license entitling entry to any/all remaining basic events, subject to the provision of a medical. Notice also, depending on the events already entered, some event licenses may have been 2 races!!

If there are any specific questions, I recommend taking them off line with Simon, and only adding to this thread if there is a material change to be made to the rule.

SLAP AROUND THE HEAD!!

This is EXACTLY what was said right in the begining and was clear as day! SHEEESH!

And was explained in the other thread!

You can do every single PUBLISHED basic race for the rest of this year. and because you have already paid for your licence it will only cost £140 more, and if you race Littlehampton you'll get £50 discounted from me. So it can cost you as little as £90.

So have you done it yet?
