What happens when you fit a 130 ecu to a 115 etec ?? or blueprint the etec ??
I am going to take some convincing that a 90 yam (blueprinted or otherwise) will compete against a 115 (130) etec. We have been running these Engine classes in OCR for over 20 years. (1.3ltr 2 Stroke 1.6ltr 4 stroke in b class and 1.8 ltr 2 stroke 2.2 ltr 4 stroke in A class) there is no way you could class them the same !!
You just as well run the 90, 115 & 200 all in 3c.

If you fit a 130ecu or blueprint you are cheating and will be caught in an after race inspection!
In the long run the 90hp 2 strokes will have trouble keeping up with the new EPA engines, but it will take a couple of years !
As you said we have been racing these engines for 20 years! And they are tuned to perfection. The EPA engines is "out of the box" engines !

I think I need a little help on this one
Is there a list of current engines eligible for use in 3B & 3B epa ? As in the UIM rules 730.1 (page 167) it says 3B epa is 1760cc but under the Offshore engine homologation ( http://www.uimpowerboating.com/vsite...m-item,00.html) it says 3B epa is 1600cc and there is no mention of the 115’s in this class
While dads got his chequebook out is there any chance that the Evinrude 130 HO will be homologated for 2009 or will i have to have a 115 HO

Dad is prepared to buy the HO if that is what is required to be competitive, ( don’t think he’ll be paying for a wedding anytime soon though ) but obviously we don’t want to buy the 115 HO now (if it is homologated ?) only to find myself competing against 130’s next year.

3B Nordic/scandinavian Championship
In 2009, there will be held a Nordic Championship in all offshore classes in Kilsund 4-5 July. It is a 10 minute drive from Tvedestrand (nearby Arendal). This is the best race scene in Norway, i think.. you drive inshore and offshore and a lot of people come to watch. In the weekend 4-5 july there is also held a traditional regatta in Kilsund, this regatta has been held for over 50 years, with races for small boats and even Veteran/wodden boats and up to the offshore/performance classes.
If anyone is considering coming I will galdly help to plan what route is the most efficient, and help getting you guys/girls a place to stay.
There is also a good party on saturday night...

For anyone even thinking of going to Norway go ahead! We raced in Tvedestrand (Class III 2 litre worlds) and it was a great event with awesome parties (they start a bit late and go on very late!). We drove through Holland, Germany and Denmark with 2 ferries to get there and it was a great adventure!

Perhaps a phone call to J.P. (RYA) on Monday may be in order?
Sadly he was responsible for "killing off" the class late 2002.
I like the idea where competitors can run with a Yam 90, (under the old rules) - otherwise I suspect "cheque book" racing will get in the way of what should be a reasonably affordable class.
Would be good to see SWP (pennpromo) ((on here)) look after the series, he has raced in every class and still thinks 3B racing is the most fun!

I have to say that 3B is excellent fun it has loads of advantages:
1). If you have an accident generally you can laugh about it over a beer, not end up in hospital.
2). Boats are cheap, light and easy to tow behind any car
3). Don't use much fuel
4). Any racing, at whatever speed, as long as it is close and competitive is fun, 3B used to offer that
5). Great experience prior to having a bigger boat
6). Yamaha 90's or Tohatsus very reliable, (except the Tohatsu saddles), cheap parts and plentiful. If you go for the clean engines, lots more to go wrong, but I suspect that if one person races with a clean engine at 115HP or more then the old Yamis will be a bit slow ?
Would be tempted out myself but unfortunately don't have the time to get the series off the ground, could race with my Daughter in a few years ...

What sort of annual budget would be required to race in the 3b series, on top of the purchase cost of the boat?
Or is that a 'piece of string' question?

One of the best things with 3B is that costs can be kept down - just needs some details form the organising clubs and the RYA with regards to entry fee's, licences etc.
Hopefully more news will follow soon....

3B died because no one was racing in it. (even I can't blame the rya for that)
I personally think, if you, Simon Wood-Pecker, and anyone else who fancies it, just get together, agree on 90hp 2 strokes, and TELL the rya you have a small fleet, a class will be formed for you, even if it's only a national class, you can race. If someone decides to go to an international event somewhere, then you'll need to rethink. Until then, why not just try and get the class to have a pulse, and move on from there, as and when.
Maybe we could have a national, or no points race for 3B at Cowes 09?

2003 was the last year that we had a National 3B. We started the season with 3 boats but this had reduced to 2 by mid season. We went to 3C in 2005 and the Gibraltar guys went to V24. You need 3 boats registered by the end of April to make a championship and it is only that nobody has registered their boats since 2003 that we have not had a championship. I personally hope this is a success for 2009 as it was a good class to race.

They will be on the same start as the 3C as it always used to be, with a slightly shorter race distance and different lap sequence.
