In reality, 3B is divided between the 82 mph Nordic cats and the 57 mph UK monos, so it is a lottery of sea conditions that determine the result.
At the recent Europeans in Norway, Sharon Atlee was a long way back during the 4Km start run, was 3rd at the end of the first short lap sea leg and was arguably 1st at the point of red flagging after the proper B lap out at sea.
Torquay is protected from the prevailing SW wind, but can still can produce an awkward chop and some long Atlantic swells around the Ore Stone.
Jan Triege Bratten is bringing over his 20 Twister cat and as the defending World Champion and World Speed Record Holder, we can expect to see some superb driving. Like Pete Wilson, in the past, he can make a cat work well in the bump.
If it's pond calm expect to see average speeds like Tvedestrand - 73 mph.
If it's bumpy a good average would be 45 mph.
If it's rough - who cares, so long as you finish!
