I am going to try and get these onto some of the websites, so people dont think that there were just TWO classes racing last weekend.....

The only ones I definately know:

V24 National Race:
1st V69 Marc Lamont/ Ana Banet
2nd V24 Andy Twemlow/Adrian Everett
3rd V2 Cliff Smith / Mark Bridges

Basic Class Race:

and running ahead of some more powerful boats. Had some good fun and enjoyed racing / over-taking Spinksy in his cat!

Cowes Results: IOW Challengev (Basic) Curtailed early, but as follows:
1)R2 Hot Lemon.630 hp. Dave & Mike Deacon 33.00 secs 58.27 knots.7 laps
2)09 Marex.500 hp. Paul Howes & graham Firmin 41.56 knots 6 laps
3)18 Saffron.150 hp.Adam & Sarah Younger.47.28 knots. 5 laps
4)H88 Fat Boy.150 hp. Rob Lister & Will Nocker.47.25 knots. 5 laps.
5)Matahari.90 hp. Gary Paine & Matt Pope. 41.86 knots. 4 laps
V24 already supplied by Marc.
Class 3/2 litre for Sunday:
1)C57, 2)C54, 3)C24, 4)C27, 5)C56,6)C11, 7)C58.
Very exciting race, C57 led for about half the race, then C54 took lead. Bob fought back alongside couple of times, until, on last lap, Bob overtook Roy coming out of the RYS (East)Turn to head the 250 mts to the finish, & passed Roy by about a boat length to win. Great excitement all round ! Good drive by Will Nurse, who took Pete Little inside on the turns at least twice that I saw, & then C27 fell back in the bouncy seas. Well deserved 3rd place by Will & Ian. [C12, C13, C80, C17 all ret'd.]
A good Honda 225 race won by 22 Evans Heritage from 88 Fat Boy & 7 Dont Panic. No.3 Stopbox Lighting had led, but ended up 4th., No 25 Mermaid were 5th, 14 English Heritage 6th & Shelley & Libby in No.1 Raymarine were 7th., after dropping thro' the field, possibly due to quite rough conditions.. 8th was No 16 Vortigern, & everyone else DNF.

Correction on Marex Average speed, 1st published was obviously incorrect as we were only 100/200 metres behind after leading by 50 mts into turn 4&5, and being thoroughly out driven by HL in this corner. Our average speed was adjusted to a fraction under HL. (can't remember the exact mph or knot number)

I appologise to Adam & Sarha for forgeting their names. You drove a great race & recorded fantastic times & speeds for your rig in those conditions. Sorry I did not stick around for a beer after the medal giving, but I was in a lot of pain & had to organise getting the boat out of the water. See me next time & I will make amends.

Thanks to all those that competed, especially in the Basic race.

I lost a blue Sparco suit bag with lots of important bits in over the weekend, just wondered if anyone picked it up by mistake. Would be real gratefull in anyone could help.

Actually I think the speeds were wrong - we must have averaged less than that - very pleased how the boat went with it's new engine but we were only seeing just over 50 knots at best and average would have been some way off that.

Also the Honda boat behind us took a short cut and did a short lap when everyone else did a long lap - so was in real terms much further behind!

On for a beer at Torquay!

Did you go left of the yellow bouys with crosses on near the shore or cut inside them?

Your average maybe right, we averaged 65/66mph in P1 on Saturday, top speed on our GPS was 74mph on straights going west & 69mph going east. Your rib would be better in the turns than us due to slowewr overall speed & its a rib. Our figures for the basic were almost identical to Saturdays P1 figures, but it was a little less rough.

We were very happy with our performance, as it was the 1st time we had ever been in the boat with 1 throttling & 1 steering and trimming. It was different in Saturdays P1 race, the situation was the same..ie 1st time driving the boat in the throttleman/driver configuration. However when your throttle man is Miles Jennings who has raced boats since 1976 and is the current P1 evolution world champion your confidence increases & youre stress level decreases.

Been driving fast boats for 20 yrs, learn't more in 3 days than the last 15yrs. (sorry Neil, 15yrs would not include time spent with you in the boat on those 2 occasions.....Thanks for Friday morning)

Torquay is looking excellent - 3C, V24, OCR, RIBs (if back), Ski racers and a big basic race.

Took the short cut!

But once Mike Spinks retired we eased up a bit as it was a big gap to the large boats ahead and a big gap to the other boats behind so would still surprise me if averagd 47 knots.
