Bahrain Grand Prix Moves to 2009

NEWS RELEASE
BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX OF THE SEA MOVES TO 2009

London, Tuesday 2nd September 2008: Extensive discussions between the organisers of the Powerboat P1 World Championship and senior officials in the Kingdom of Bahrain have resulted in a rescheduling of the inaugural Bahrain Grand Prix of the Sea. The event will move from November this year to 2009.

Jim O’Toole, Chief Executive of Powerboat P1 explained: “We’ve reluctantly decided that it is no longer feasible to stage our 2008 season finale in Bahrain. However, we are now in negotiation with the key stakeholders to decide the best date and venue for next year’s Grand Prix. This will allow Powerboat P1 and the Kingdom of Bahrain to showcase the island and what it has to offer to a worldwide audience.”

The Powerboat P1 World Championship moves to Vigo in Spain next week, followed by the Portuguese Grand Prix of the Sea in Portimao on 26th – 28th September.

One should never trust the gossip market and perhaps Jim O'Toole can tell us what is really going on but I understand that our Italian P1 friends are now extremely upset about Fabio Buzzi coming here and winning the CTC when they were not permitted to take part by P1. Surely this cannot be true.

Bollocks as ever,......nobody stopped them racing,,,,,the fact that they had adriano's european championship in nettuno the week after was the main reason

I've never met buzzi so don't have an opinion either way but it's apparent half of powerboat Italy loves him and the other half like the Mr Inverted Commas think he's God's gift

their choice,,,,,cowes or nettuno,,,,,,

i have a daily barometer of exactly what everyone and anyone is pissed off about and this hasn't registered on the richter scale of team unhappiness

I did hear a few chuckles in Nettuno about the closeness of the race ending, not sure what they could possibly be suggesting or alluding to??

Well at least 4 boats didn't have to come off the plane and wait a few minutes to cross the line.

That was P1 Cowes 2007.

The two Buzzi boats in '08 had at least done some serious mileage, and of course coming from a motor sport background Jim - you will understand "team orders".

you're right the cowes fiasco was one of the main reasons behind our rules re jig for 08, but it wasn't an artificial race ending.just crap rules and their application, my first ever offshore powerboat race, and a shambles of gargantuan proportions..

orders is orders I guess.......is this normal in powerboating?

how many boatmaddees...boatmadders....boatmadettes...boatma ddonnas..boatmaddasses.??? ( WHAT IS THE COLLECTIVE NOUN JF).......have allegedly fixed a race finish.......not that I am suggesting that any recent races were fixed finishes,, you understand just passing on other people's comments)))
