Thanks Bob not sure if you can answer this but it says Start time 13.00 but does not say finish time, when I watched the last Torquay race I think the V and C class's ran for 60 mins is this the planned time for the Basic race? just that I would need to check fuel tank size on my boat.but its looking promising, does anyone know if there are many basic entries other than the the X cat ? Cheers Nic

According to Race Instructions it is 64.75 NM. So if you can maintain an average of 65 Knots it will be just under an hour. you can avoid 11.4NM by getting lapped 3 times then you will only need to average 44 knots. Hope this helps !!

Cheers Bob did OCR run for an hour in the past as I'm sure the previous owner of my boat said the tank was good for an hour race.I'd probably loose a lap or two changing my navigator anyhow.Nic

Your tank should be fine. From memory about 75-80 Ltrs should do it.

I'm confused. You've not long finished a two year long complete refit. What could possibly need sorting on the wiring?

I think it’s a relay failure, but questioning that idea now as that would mean 2 of the 3 bilge pumps failed as well (long odds that), I should have been able to access it without pulling off the side deck & make it a quick change, the theory & location was good but the wrist can’t just make the turn. I was quite surprised as to how sensitive the voltage is for an EFI, it showed a marked difference as more time passed. I know Foolish is sweeping up the but a tow from Freshwater - I'd be asking a bit much

For the Basic race would I need a Sat Nav/Plotter or are the bouy's spaced so you can see them,The main race instructions looks like varying course for different laps.I'm new to all this so some clarification as to needing Charts /Plotter and a Navigator with a brain for the Basic race or will the basic run the same course ?

Your nav (preferably wiv a brain) just needs compass bearings for each leg and an absolute certainty of the lap you are on and the sequence you have to do, which for the basic boats will be given at drivers briefing. The Basic distance is a little less than the National boats are running. You dont need a fancy plotter or anything unless you really want one. A very basic GPS with a "Go to" facility does the job (thats what I prefer) or a compass is fine. GPS has only been allowed since 2003 or so, and we all used compasses / stopwatches before that.
The marks at Torquay should be visible to you, just a matter of pickin the right one.

See you on the pier.

I'm good at picking the wrong one's

I'll use the Mrs's Garmin Car Nav at least that will point out places of interest .Is that the compass that you used at school to do your own tatoooooos and dig holes in your desk,or the Glass ball shaped thing that came loose last weekend in the first race and when my nav threw it up to me on the Quayside he missed me and it fell back on to the boat and smashed into little pieces? best remember/work out how to use one then
cheers nic

Torquay Basic

I've just spoken to Shirley ref entry forms and as the ORDA web site is down to post this info, the basic race can only be a maximum of 45NM so should be no isues with fuel.also the basic race will run on the same lap every lap not varying laps(Poss 1st lap might be different) so no navigation isues. She will try to post on here an entry form but if not contact her on 07771 567111 or e mail shirley.simpkins@lsc.gov.uk.She says she has 2 Big cats entered(that might have to do the large laps)and possibly some of the honda's,approx 10 basic entries so far.Final course to be decided on the day depending on type of Basic boats entered,Looking like a good entry and should be fun.Hope this helps
Nic
