Best wishes to Vee on record run
Best wishes to Vee Ganjavian (and crew) on his attempt to beat the Poole-Cherbourg record tomorrow (...on his birthday no less). The fact that the existing record is held by Mark Pascoe (and Peter Dredge) adds a little more fun to the equation. Mark and Peter did it in '96 in Fabio Buzzi's 'Vulture Ventures' with 2 Seateks (850hp each) and Trimax surface drives. Vee will be running 'Fury' (38'6" Phantom Super V) with 2 x Ilmor 710 (700hp each) through Arneson surface drives. Total trip is around 71 miles and the record stands at 52 minutes, 23 seconds (average of 82.42 mph).

Is this an offical RYA record attempt and which club is Vee running under? Just interested as I held this record back in 1985 at 1hr 35mins running under the RMYC. How times have changed!

Not 100% sure if it's an official run or not - think it is. I guess the club will be the same one Fiona P runs Thundercats through.
Marc - I'll try and find out (and get times) and revert

Today's run has had to be postponed - large ship carrying nuclear waste at Cherbourg means a clear run can't be achieved

Spoke with Gareth a short while ago, he sounds well pissed off!
Hopefully they can re schedule soon.

Would have been a flat run yesterday if the weather down here is anything to go by! Hope they get another go!

Anyone know what has happened to Mike Deacon and "Hot Lemon"?
Last I heard the French had arrested Mike and his wife in Cherbourg and impounded his boat!

I’ve often wondered how Mike funded his racing activity, rumour has it that he’s actually an international jewel thief and the third most wanted man on Interpol’s list. They always say it’s the quiet ones you should look out for.

As you were. The rumour that Mike Deacon had been arrested in Cherbourg and his boat impounded was apparently completely untrue. I well and truly fell for that one.
