Boat share on Cougar
Is anyone interested in getting involved in buying a 38 foot cougar on a boat sharing scheme. Like to find 2 more like minded people to form a syndicate. I have a mate who is interested, cutting the cost four ways makes it affordable. (only £250 per head for a weekend of fuel ) Uses could range from poker runs, Blade runs and racing or just cruising.

its only a idea at he moment, Seen some cougars on the web in the states which look superb for about 40-50K. I dont know much about them any info would be welcomed. I just love them as i've been going to Wasash or the last 28 years.

They've only been in Warsash for about 8 years though haven't they?
Still, it's a nice place anyway I spose.

I've never thought boat sharing worked that well, certainly not from personal experience. From finding that the previous user had run it out of fuel, to having a mechanical failure when one of the owners isn't onboard, and so doesn't feel he should contribute to the costs of repair. I would think that the problems would be made even worse trying to run something 10+ years old.

Yeah, but that's the opposite side of the river to Warsash.

can still see the otherside while on the piss in the rising sun.
This boat share will be hard to put together i agree. Need guys or girls that an't penny pinchers, Its the kind of boat that would only be used for special events. and Still be alot cheaper than financing the boat on ones own.

The only way to run a boat share is to put in the money for maintenance upfront, and distribute any remaining by way of a discount for the next years bill..
So you guestimate 12k for maintenance for the year, each member ( of the four ) puts up 3k right at the start of the year. If you only use 9k then in the next year every owner only has to stump up 2k.
You just know it will be a bad time financially for someone when a repair is needed. And then the issue will cause grief to both the poor bugger who needs the boat next, and would probably be the one paying double share, and the bloke who now has to hide untill he can come up with his share of the cost...

Problems are there to be solved.
A lot of ground work has to be done to organise such a scheme.
However i would like to be part of a very special boat that would be extremly rare. All parties involved would have to become good friends such that if all parties wanted to go to an event its possible.
All maintenance would be split and a fund set up.

Thank god Tony, i thought i was the only one to get my pants pulled down over a boat share. The bastards i was sharing with definatly enjoyed their boating more than i did.
I spent all my time cleaning up their mess, fixing things and fueling the bloody thing up.
Promptly dissolved that partnership.
And do you know what?
Those sods have never bought a boat since and that was five years ago! Lazy Bastards.
From experience, never again.
A dinghy that can be used when ever it takes your fancy is worth far more than a Superyacht thats only available twice a year!

Well I've got a GP14 sitting in my drive that I'd happily swap for a couple of weeks a year on a superyacht.
Actually I'd swap it for the use of a speedboat for couple of weekends a year!
Anyone interested?
