I have to own up to the rules going international as it was on my wish list to build up Cowes to be a major event for the 50th anniversary of the CTC by holding a Marathon Wold Cup. As things have panned out and on reflection, not one of my smartest moves.

However, as always Jon

Mike, my comments weren't pointed at you and I certainly wasn't trying to apportion any blame.

As I said, It was a mistake we all signed up for, as it turns out, extremely naively.

Is it too late to pull the plug?

Just out of curiosity: are cats better than monohulls in the rough, or do they go better in calm conditions?
Forgive my ignorance!

Now there's a question!

There are certainly Cat's that are great in the rough, and there are Mono's that aren't.

Progression, to the best of my knowledge only build monos!

Single inboard cats are usually not really cats at all. They are centre pod or modvp almost style hulls. Usually have a large FLAT centre pod and take a beating in the rough. Great fast boats in calm waters, don't tend to lean in corners as much or porpoise but not rough water boats.

Alan

Here's a great clip of a cat flying beautifully in the rough

I for one would love to see some big cats back out there racing in the uk. I remember seeing the likes of the reporter and clarke cats as a kid and have to say that they really did it for me.

Seems like ages since there were any big cats racing in the uk and am sure there are a few old cougar cats kicking about that are ripe for a resto job!

Just sounds to me like some of the monos are scared of the competition (said tongue in cheek)

Cats would struggle in the really rough stuff so any advantage would soon be lost when it blows up a bit.
