JF did an excellent job as start boat for the Basic / V24 race on Sunday. Leviathan looked imaculate as always. Taken on Saturday :-

It was a much cleaner start than that of the P1 race on saturday. The yellow flag for that was up for 25+ seconds with the whole field spread out.

The container ship was asked to slow down to their minimum speed and obliged, it ran at 'dead slow', taking ages to get to a distance where it and it's wake could be a danger to the race's safety, it was then that we got the signal to curtail the race. I don't think for one second there was any 'pre-meditation' in the curtailement.
Sure, there was a 'slot' that was always going to be tight, and not leave much, or any room for unforseen delays, but at the end of the day, the main sponsors of the event were P1 and Honda, and they're were therefore bound to be a priority.

As a spectator, I enjoyed the event, and certainly wouldn't want the aggro of orchestrating all the races and associated safety/marshall boats myself.
I'm sure most competitors, safety boats and spectators alike, are pleased it turned out to be a great, and safe weekend.

I had Terry Herring on board for the basic and 3C starts (one of the OOD's), along with my wife Angela, and Matts girlfriend Vicki. Whilst out on the water, Terry looked into the cabin and saw the berth, seating, etc and asked, "Do you bed down on board then?" ..Yes I replied, we've slept on it here in the Marina for the last three nights. "All three of you!!???" replied Terry

OK fair comment, just a shame it happened when it did.

A protest was lodged with the protest committee, saying I jumped over another V24 whilst overtaking them, and then went the wrong way up the course. However, I did not see another boat from start to finish, and the photographs I have seen to date, and the feedback from those watching in both boat and from land suggest that I was in the lead from start to finish.

I dont know where the 'jump' button is on the boat, or when Geoff fitted the 'jump' button.

I am not saying it did not happen, and I have been promiced a photograph of the incident. What I am saying I do not remember overtaking another V24 during the race! I remember being in the lead from a very good start up to the time the race was red flagged.

Actually, anyone paying attention, would have noticed that Vicki and I happily flagged every boat in the race, as instructed by the OOD - no 'reluctance' on our part!

That was our impression as well, but I did see the protest, and I was informed that the actual protest committee meeting was not going to be held, and for 'technical reasons' the protest would not be allowed and the protestor would loose their protest money.

It was far from boring. Cowes water is dodgy any day and it was very challenging keeping to our top speed and keep the white part pointing skywards and the red part pointing down....

But seriously, I just could not do anything except win, else I could not show my face here again. Besides that, if I did not finish first I owed Matt 52 pints of beer, and I am not up for that.

Spotted some dodgy ex racers out on the water on Saturday.

My speed record co-pilot, Tony Donald and his throttleman Dave Barham languish in the sunny Solent.
