Hiya mate, sorry, during the basic & 2 litre races, I had an official on board, and to be honest, there was a bit too much salt spray flying about to wanna risk knackering the camera anyways.

All the pics I took of the rough races were from the shore, and I even got a bit damp there.

Agree with you Marc, the message at the briefing seemed quite clear, the basic race (inc the V24's runing for national points) was not high on their list of priorities and if the programme was running late it would be curtailed. Given that virtually all other parts of the programme over ran I not sure why the Basic race could not have continued for several more laps. It appeared quite pre-mediated..... wonder what would have happended if the Tanker appeared during the P1 event ?

Given the time and effort involved in getting a boat prepared, transported to the race etc, not to mention the costs the organisers should behave in a slightly more balanced way.
If you keep an eye on the P1 site they will sometimes ask for comments on the race. I duly did that last year saying that some of the competitors were feeling pretty stuffed at their prizes being taken away from them and P1 thanked me for my comments and sent me a P1 hat! cheeky buggers. They haven't taken any negative comments on board by the sound of it. The only comment I have this year is that I have never seen so many spectators on the beach over the 26 years I have been going to Cowes. What do you guys think?

I share the frustration of the racers regarding the tanker curtailing the basic & V24 race. However, VTS had been in communication with the tanker and he had slowed down as much as he reasonably could to minimise impact to the race(both wash, and approaching the course), which is pretty thoughtful by those guys.

ANY race would have been red flagged, regardless of class, but it's obviously very frustrating for the guys who's race was cut short. I believe it was the cowes harbour master that red flagged it - and bearing in mind the difficulty in negotiating to race at all, arguing with him about the decision would have been foolhardy.

Ebel doing naughty things to Quality Job, or trying to. Someone should tell those guys that can be difficult to do in rough water.

Officer Dibble...(AKA rear admiral pen-wood-promo)

..Proudly examins his new blue light!..screwdriver still grasped firmly in his mitt.

Just think of the power & respect this will afford me, he thinks to himself!

Simon was very excited at the prospect of having an official blue light, all of his own, and spent most of the night on the instalation to ensure it wouldn't let him down in a frantic moment of chief marshalling.

Did you have to give it back on Sunday Si? ..was there a tear in your eye?

RE Photo

Thank you Jon, actually I think that quite suites me. I was thinking of taking a leaf out of Nigel Mansell's book and becoming a special constable !!
A photograph never lies; Amazing the power of Photoshop ...
