I have a boat ready to race.

I can obtain a event license but my navigator has no race experience and the rules state they need to have a lesson or training before obtaining a event license?

so i have a couple questions.

can the event cater for the people with no previous race experience?

how many other people are in the same boat? pun not intended.

thank you

I'm not 100% sure but I think you need powerboat level 2 or better, you need to contact an RYA powerboat training school or Paul Sinclair or Neil Holmes and book a course, as I said I'm not 100% sure of what you need to get a event event licence but more boats entering is what is needed so if anyone knows what this guy needs to do please advise.

contact either ocrda or sepa for training, you do not have to go to a training school to get a event licence, all you need is basic common sense race training.if enough of you want to do this I am sure they will arrange a day out.,but you all have left it a bit late in the season

You will have to join/get hold of orda malc and they can sort out training for event license, the training consists of things about saftey when racing eg how many boat lenghs apart when overtaking.
Dont think your rya pb2 license will help you

Brian, to expand...... what I actually meant above is:

1) Is Bob Mc able to train?
2) Do SEPA currently have a training officer?

I as as there are obviously a great number of us looking to get licences sorted for CPC, with misinformation flying all over the place. So it'd be nice if we can be clear on whether both the parties you mention can actually facilitate the correct training.

both numbers I have given are both club officials that have trained people for
racing,so if you are interested phone either to see what they can do for you.but as I have already said you are all leaving it a bit late in the day

you could have trained @ allhallows in april or allhallows in may, so 3 months ago max ,that's without asking any other club

Brian, I very specifically and deliberately opted not to train at Allhallows. Primarily as there doesn't appear to be any rule that states I need to.

As I said before, I've been trying to sort this on & off for most of the summer. There's much conjecture and misinformation on licencing. Hopefully I'll get my situation sorted asap, then if I can I'll help others.

It just seems that all rules racers accept whether written or not armchair racers seem to have a problem with

Brian, I am very keen for us not to detract from the positive message within this thread and for us not to be pouring cold water all over Dorian, Sally, John et al's efforts in facilitating what I hope to be a great event running in conjunction with CTC.

I do have to say though Brian, I am surprised both by your tone and that you (IMHO) appear to be misinterpreting or be misinformed about the rules as they are written within PB1. I have after all only asked you to clarify 1 or 2 off the things you have written here as they contradict the information I have to hand. If you are indeed correct, it will have been very helpfull to me and a number of others.

The "armchair racers" comment is just needless & stinks of the old guard attitude, especially given the struggle some appear to be having to get racing.

Have to ask though; are the "unwritten rules" that you speak of available in audio format and are they only available to existing racers?

I'll be at the Cowes event with a boat whether its as a spectator or a competitor, so I'll buy you a pint, you can buy the chaser!
