Thankyou Jon, Adrian and Dave for highlighting the little oversite Steve and I were a little disappointed we had been overlooked, along with Rose and Neil. However we have moved on now and are just happy that we were able to participate in the Cowes 50th Race, get back safe and sound with no damage to ourselves or the boat. We arrived Tuesday and despite the wind and rain had a wonderful week. A big thankyou to all those envolved in organising the event enabling us to have such a good time. Brian and Steve

Thanks Annie, thats interesting.
Out of noseyness, does the 12.01 retirement time of My Pleasure represent the actual time of his radio call in to retire? Or the time he arrived in Portland.
Jon

In the same way that you get DQd if you loose a helmet (Ask JF) or an engine cowling.
The boat has to finish equipped as it started.,
Hence the Race Officers have no option but to DQ & await a protest.

So how come they were reinstated?

If it's not the class rules then it's the entry fees, then when there is a race there's no results due to all the protests...
Posts like Markus Hendricks' are a breath of fresh air, I'd love to read more racer's accounts. The article in another thread about Derek Lloyd's winning seat in a CTC was amazing. Dealing with differing conditions, breaking things, tussling with other boats - that's why people race surely? I know that's why I'm starting... The internet could do so much for the sport if used correctly.
Huge congratulations to all that took part and those that organised the event, the photos look incredible. I hope I can be a part of something like that in the future.

That is a fantastic result and perhaps being over-looked.
Anyway - great achievement by all finishers - especially the smaller boats in both races.

2010 UIM Marathon World Cup Results
The appeal has been withdrawn so we can now publish these results.
Silverware for first, second and third overall will be awarded at the RYA dinner next year.

I gathered that!
What were the grounds for the successful protest (appeal?). If they lost their life raft, but are required to finish with it, then there wouldn't seem to be much room for debate.

It does seem rather strange that it is permissible to continue racing when a vital piece of life-saving equipment has gone overboard (inflating, being reported to the Coastguard and possibly launching an un-necessary full-scale air-sea search, thereby endangering other people's lives..) due to being secured badly... and not having a liferaft if things go-wrong later in the race..
Should the boat have been red-flagged?

I suspect that is right on the button, nothing changes does it? Simply disgraceful and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. If you lose your liferaft you should be penalised, to have no penalty is just taking the p..s and the problem is everyone knows it! Leaves a nasty taste from a great weekend. Just checking who was on the Race Jury!!

If Jon and I had Carried on racing after he lost his helmet we would have been penalised, we went back to find it and lost alot of time and places.

The spoils of war...
Lovely glass trophy and dwarf newsboy.
(The Wight Vodka first place baseball cap is in the car, but it's very cool, so will post a pic later)
