CTC Safety boats

I guess a lot of safety boats will be needed. Would it not be a good idea to post on Ribnet and MBY forums to ask for help. As there may be limited funds for this what will happen with regard to moorings etc.

If there is a dry pit area and we have some space for the RV we will splash some free beer out for anyone helping.

Barry, you are right, funds are severely limited so your offer of free beer is appreciated, or rather it will be appreciated. Re safety boats, I'm not too sure on that front just yet. Give us a another couple of days re moorings and dry pits. It's all coming together fast!
ML.

I've stickied a thread on RIBnet. I'm happy to do whatever I can to help.

What would be really useful is something that I can tell potential volunteers to assure them that they will be valued and appreciated rather than exploited and abused. Too many people have been pissed on by race organisers (and racers to for that matter) over the last few years which has made it harder to get help than it should be.

This grassroots revival could be the perfect opportunity for a fresh start.

Good on everyone for keeping the momentum rolling on this one!

Edit: If you are planning to help with safety cover please add your name here: http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11508

I would offer my services unfortunately the engine is dead, and then it was stolen and recovered, however I have contacted others with boats I know and asked them to view this thread if they can help with any cover for the event

The official word today is that there will be no official safety cover, as the race is being treated as a "marathon" event.

This is fine, and anyone entering this sort of race ought to be pretty much self sufficient [1], but if there isn't any organised assistance cover then it could lead the organisers (and the sport generally) open to criticism - imagine how good the publicity would be if the RNLI ended up towing in half a dozen broken down boats.

Is it OK to just declare "no safety cover", or should it be "no safety cover, but we'll do what we can to have boats standing by to assist"?

[1] It's now permitted to enter a single engined boat into the CTC, with no requirement for an auxiliary. Anyone considering this really ought to have a plan B, like organising their own support boat (as a group effort perhaps?)

Several of us who are racing will have our 'pleasure' boats in the water as support. Perhaps we can all get together and arrange possible station locations, VHF channels and so on.

This should be such an excellent event!

The answer is simple.

Before RB08 he informed me that he was now a serious journalist.

Now any "serious journalist" can't race a 90 mph + boat and write for the "local rag" in the same day.

Wether we see the "serious journalist", trying to get a ride in a big boat on the CTC is in question.

Either he's skint, or his bottles gone (if he ever had any)

Or, he's affraid the 'shark' will break. after all, it's a tough race, not some wanky 3C or rib f1 day out and it's made of used shoelaces, brown paper and vinegar.!!
