Don Aronow race date 2011

After some discussions re the date for next year's Don Aronow Around Long Island Marathon, we wanted to be as flexible as possible, to allow the British teams to return for another shot at the trophy.

So we have moved the date back one week to later in the month of September, the date for next year is......

Saturday..September, 24, 2011

We will have more next week re the class breakdown.

Some areas we have already agreed on....No canopy boats allowed and no turbine boats allowed.

So you have just under a year to get ready for this 271 mile return to real open ocean racing.

We welcome all racers and anyone who always wanted to be a racer like the old days.

The Peter's and May people were very helpful and we agreed in the end, for us to try to have a race in July and then try to get the teams over here and back in time for Cowes, was pushing it a bit.

Since we have locked in the later date, we have been having some discussions re the idea of another old style ocean race over here in November from some point on the east coast to Key West, right before the races start down there.

We want all of our races to be at least 200 miles long and the old Miami to Key West race was around 185 miles or so. We will just move up to Fort Lauderdale for the start and that would be fine for the mileage.

Whatever teams ship their boats over for the NYC Don Aronow race in September, could leave the boats here and race them in the race to Key west in November. We could even find secure storage for the boats between races.

Peter's and Mays said that the boats could then be shipped back to England from Jacksonville, Florida.
