M5 outboard rules are a bit pants!

you can go 2 x verado 200's in the 3,500 4S/SC

or 2 x Etec 200's in the 5,800 4S

But you can only have 2 x 175 Opti's in the 5,200 2S/EPA class, as the bigger optis are 3 litre, and the 200xs is no longer available. Bit of a shame really as the Optis are probably the cheapest option for outboards in that class.

na not for sale,standard fit to a sunseeker xs as are the yanmars just cant see a class it fits as a production boat

So D2S will have to be "restricted" to 50 Knts and we should be class M8

i reckon it would be depressing to restrict db2 to 50 knots maybe you will have to run in m3 too

But it is average 50 knots....

so 85 knots for 50% of the race and poodle home, gin & tonic on the sun deck with smoked salmon sarnies how 70's retro is that !!!!!!!!!!!

dont do speedos ... toook little-fin swimming at david lloyd . this normally meas me watching the Aerobics class with a coffee. NOT last night.... it was a male step aerobics - one piece spandex -- oh it looked so wrong quite shocking had to go & watch netball.

EPA with outboards is really a bit of shame yes it comes from on high, but you will all burn hundreds if not many thousands of lts testing, transporting & Racing. does it really make that much difference to use a XR2 or 2.5 EFI really - be honest - it stinks (pun intended) but you can run ya really old lead fuelled big blocks at 2 galls a mile but not those nasty clip -ons

Stupid question time...

Can anyone tell me what the dimensions/calculations are for M7 class? Also what qualifies as a "Motor Cruiser", does the XS fit in this class, or will we have to run in M3?

Anyone?????

if understand it right your UIM length is about 35 foot, so 140 kg/foot gives a min weight for M7 of 4900kg - i guess are about 3900-4000kg now. so you need to add 900kg....

We are okay with the weight (no pies needed, thanks Gaz!), it was the dimensions for the cube that I need explaining.....?


Pash - dont worry about restricting your new engines, you wanna see if you can tune em up to GET TO 50 KNOTS

So whats wrong with the M3 class
Why would you want to run in Motor Cruiser as the xs was built as a race boat.

Unless you want to win win win against 50mph boats

On initial look at the rules they seem disappointing and not really promoting modern thinking - advances in design.

Certainly disagree with the weights and in an age where we need to encourage higher efficiency this is not helping. Whilst I can see that trying to stop super lightweight builds of 'old' boats maybe necesary but it is preventing new thinking too.

Always going to be difficult to please everyone - make that impossible - but I think more could have been achieved.

when i asked same question other day was told would,nt be competative,hmm
against what untested verados etecs 175 optis,
lookes more like looking after inboard interests than anything to do with epa,or green engines.
seems a shame that most likely used rigs that fit m5 will be set up for the older mercs,transom sizes,position,steering etc, never mind the weak saddles ,gearboxes and mids on new motors.
