Competitors

Hi everyone!

Ain´t there anyone from the UK comming to Sweden for the EC in class 3C?
There´s now around 15 boats from 4 countries participating. Would be great to have some from UK as well!

Well, well, to close to the WC in Italy I guess?

Cheers!

Bjorn Lind

Hi Marcus. We had an explosion in the stbd sponson, bildge pump short circuited and ignited fuel fumes from a very small leak in the tank. Blew all the skin off the side. Could have been worse as we caught fire as well!!! Feck she was going well lol. The pics are in the Ramsgate thread.

results so far...

The rumours have it that the Norwegian boats(12 of them!!!) have to drive under swedish liscense and flag on their boats, this is because of some minor issues in Norway.
There were big waves today, and several boats did not even go into the water in class 3B, even last years winner in EC in 3B did not come to the start line because of weather...The winner of the first race in 3B was a Beecraft 19-morten olaussen and Kristian Keller....monohull. In 3C last year world champion in a Hydrocat -Thomas Rosèn won the race with sjølander 2. and braaten 3...
I have borrowed the information from :

Unfortunately no one, just two Norweigan teams racing under UK licence!
The results is now published on the offical web site.

The weather on friday was very windy, 10-14 m/s and up to 20 m/s.
The waves very around 2-2,5m on the worst place, with some waves up to 4m!
Many drivers said it was the worst race they ever driven! Even the Norweigan teams who is used to rough conditions thougt it was really bad conditions.
The Turkish team were terrified, they had never seen soo big waves before...

9 boats of 18 starters finished.

Yesterday (saturday) it still very very windy with windspeeds 8-11 m/s. The conditions were better then on friday, but still very rough.

They ran storm course both races.

Total results:

3B
1st Morten Olausen, Kristian Keller, NOR (GBR)
2nd Christian Antonssen, Linda Karlsen, NOR
3rd Daniel Svensson, Joakim Kumlin, SWE

3C
1st Thomas Sjolander,Johan Sjolander. SWE
2nd Thomas Rosen, Rolle Sjogren, SWE
3rd Marcus Johnsson, Thomas Holmstrom, FIN

Very, very rough, but also fair racing, The ones that concentrated on finishing, got some really good results.

Tired and exhausted organiser, Bjorn Lind

Of course the only person from the UK is John Puddifoot - having a little expense paid trip (probably from the RYA a/c) abroad. You dont expect him to be attending a 3C's UK National round do you?
Wasn't it Nero who watched Rome burn? The likeness is quite eerie.
With only 5 3C UK National entries this weekend where else do you think the salaried UK Powerboat Racing manager would be? - as far away as possible from the competitors who fund him.
A little more attention to the matters at home would seem appropriate to most of us, but no.
We have all become accustomed to the non attendance at the 3C UK Nat Series events personally - not to provide answers regarding the problems of the sport at home. But to be at a 3Cs Int event abroad instead is just too much.
Could this possibly be the root of the problems for the non promoted, long established classes in the UK - the distinct lack of interest, help & support from the ones paid to do this.

Bjorn Lind

By the way, John seems to be a very nice guy in my opinion.

Whilst I'm glad for you that the RYA powerboat racing manager made you a happy chap, I don't think a few days spent with someone who's being paid to give you a service is an ideal situation to form an opinion on which you apparently feel qualified to 'diss' someone who may have seen this person in a different light, and, very possibly spent just a tad more than a few days with him, in order to form their own opinion.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Paid staff should not be taking the place of an experienced volunteer to act as UIM Commissioner at International events. If RYA senior management had ANY interest in Powerboat Racing, they would keep the paid staff in the office, and support volunteer members.

Hi,
I´m not going to comment this anymore, maby it´s as you guys say´s. I´ve only meet him in this event...And my appologies if I "dissed" someone, not my intention to do that.
Just want everyone to race instead of complaining. That´s a big problem in Sweden as well. If everyone raced as much as they complained we would have a huge starting field! As it is right now we could have had about 15 boats if everyone started, intead of 2 or maby 3 in each race...

If you are interested in looking at some great pic´s from the event I can recomend www.offshoreracing.se , in swedish, but great pic´s...

Hope the racing in 3C is going to be a lot bigger class in UK, it´s in my opinion the best class to drive if you want to drive international races to a fair amount of money.

No hard feelings guys!
