Formula Future in Southampton

Thanks very much to Dennis and all involved in organising this event, we've had a fantastic weekend's racing! Everyone was very friendly and the event was brilliantly organised, I'd recommend it to anyone!
Maybe next time I'll learn how to corner it properly and sorry about the engine mounts!!

I'll post some pics when I'm back to Guernsey.

James

Great to see you guys and glad you had fun, a good venue and with better conditions the possibility for a full programme of racing all round.

Cheers

I'd like to add my thanks too, we had a great time, sorry for wrecking your boat!

Only complaint I have is about the bloody seats in the boat, my ass cheeks are a bit tender

We did better, Larby was just getting the hang of cornering it and were having a good battle with mick, but in the last race the handling got ropey as the engine mounts and tilt tube bushes were shot leaving the motor flapping around! Pengs and Hutchy lifted the motor on the 16 and fixed the trim, they had it going bloody well. They were smart enough to nick some pillows from the hotel too!

It was right outside the RYA Headquarters in Hamble. Rearranged final round of their championship I believe and allowed to go ahead under scrutiny as part of the safety review. It wasn't a full representation of their series as I think a lot of boats were already retired for the winter!

There were 4 P19s with 150 HOs racing, 2 P16s with 90 Etecs and a Ring 16 with 90 Etec that Pengs and Hutchy drove. 7 boats on a course just under a mile long I think, with a slightly different course for the smaller boats. We did 3 races, last in class in all of them but getting to grips with the boat at the end, didn't do badly at all considering the amount of time the other guys have had in them. Pengs and Hutchy drove really well, broke the trim on the first race and had to pull out but they fixed it, lifted the motor in the pits on Sunday morning and had a 2nd place in class I think. Unfortunately it was ruled as too rough for the kids to go out and race in their 12ft Sorcerers with 25hp motors, but they signed off and went and have a play. They looked like awesome fun, wish I had something like that when I was their age!

You lot need to get out more !! There is nothing stopping you making boats !! Perhaps if you all channel some positive input things might improve.

So the temporary suspension was temporarily lifted?

Shouldn't the clubs have been informed of this, it was all kept very quiet.

Not strictly true. It would be unwise to build a raceboat when the rules are under review, as there had been talk of impact protection and other changes.

Sorry !! Carl is right "You could'nt make it up"

My new boat is under construction.

Does anyone know of any "factual" reason why it should'nt be ??

Anyone know the restrictions put on UKFFORC that allowed them to run ??

The decision to build the boat does not lie with me but the person who places the order. I have repeatedly asked the RYA to treat any boats "in build" as existing boats only to be told that there is a meeting on the 30th of November. As Tony said it would be unwise to build a boat then have to take it apart and rebuild it to satisfy a committee's decision.

What restrictions where UKFFORC put under then? The only one that would satisfy complying with the ban would be to race one at a time against the clock surely?

How about possible weight changes, material stipulations and boat specs. i also have some enquiries but untill this is finalised can not start. also who was there from the rya doing the reviewing?

Having never seen Formula Future before I don't know exactly what they did differently, I know the course was a lot simpler than they usually run though, and was run as a proper circuit with no different laps. John Puddifoot was there as Commissioner I think, Steve Gallienne OOD, and they did make a very big deal out of racing safely and being in control at all times. Glad to say the weekend went very well as far as the driving was concerned by everyone, and it was noted by Puddifoot in the presentation that it would be a big plus for the meeting tomorrow.

I can't comment on why there was no release or anything, as I know as much as you all do. All I do know is I got offered a weekend to race as they had a spare boat so I jumped at the chance!
