Global Marathon Series
In the last 2 weeks there has been a lot of 'Marathon' communication going on behind the scenes triggered from our trip to the US and the running of the Long Island Marathon race.
I have been approached by four companies independantly about sponsoring a global marathon series. The companies are Tag Heuer, Peters & May, FPT USA and a bio fuel company (can't be disclosed at this point).
Tag Heuer wish to be title sponsor with the others as sponsors & Peters & May wish to discuss boat movements
Tag have requested three US races and 2 European races in the series
2 Questions to the MArathon racers
1) Do we have the appetite to compete in five races across the world, assume it will be properly organised & heavily subsidised, however also assume that it will not be free to do or you will get paid to arrive
2) Have we got the time to do this with RB11/RB12 and out national series
I am also interested to know if there is anybody out there who is interested to take this forward to see if it has any legs, this is a step to far for me with my other commitments.

Appetite, absolutely.
does however beg the question that if there was only 6 or so boats at the SCM last month, what chances of getting them 1/2 way around the world? And could those teams afford to try and replicate a P1 type affair?

I think it has been proven many times over that supported series are always popular - In my opinion there are plenty of owners that will turn up to a free party!
As far as BananaShark is concerned it would obviously enable us to obtain more sponsorship making it easier to do - timing and transport are the other big issues!

Global Marathon Series
Sounds like a great idea and I would be up for trip there, but before we go off around the globe perhaps we should sort out what we are going to do with our own National Series.

Just arrived back home from the OFF reunion of the old racers in Florida.
I did happen to notice this when I checked the internet from my hotel and started a buzz about it over here.
There is immediate interest. Someone suggested that it is almost time that ocean racing was restarted to it's original roots, as it has become so watered down over the years......this or something like this, is what the ocean racers have been waiting for.
Please keep us included as you go forward.
PS....after speaking with Peter's and Mays folks, we have moved the date of next years Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island Marathon to Sept 24, 2011. They told us with this date, there should be no problem in getting the boats over after Cowes. And perhaps some boats may want to stay and enjoy the warm weather for the next race we have been planning....see below.
There is much discussion here, about a 200 mile plus ocean marathon from Fort Lauderdale to Key West on the Saturday before the race week starts in Key West in November 2011. (The old Miami to Key West race was only 185 miles)
Bill Wishnick, before his death this year, donated all of his ocean racing trophies to HORBA and we are making a new trophy using one of his silver cups. This Florida race will be the Bill Wishnick Memorial Fort Lauderdale to Key West Marathon.
Peter's and Mays said the boats could then be shipped back to Europe from Jacksonville, Fla.

USA visit
I will do my best to get a boat over there for these races. Clearly with the RB 2011 and hopefully CTC there is the unpredictability of damage or breakdown in those events but absent that predicament I hope to be there. And we would stay over for the November racing. Tends to be miserable in the UK in that month so a Florida jaunt would be a tonic.
