Can't quite get my head around this though ..............

It has been a long and demanding process to pursue this case and the RYA has been called upon to meet its costs in doing so.

Sorry to disappoint you, Tim, but the legal costs did not come from the Powerboat Racing Department's budget.

Excuse my curiosity then - but who the hell did pay for it all then?

The RYA's Legal Department took the bill. They have their own funds for this kind of thing.

I'm guessing those funds originally come from license fees etc? So the clubs and competitors still pay one way or another?

It would be amusing (to me anyway) to find out if the Sailing side contributed to that fund as well!

I'm sure they would/do.
The Legal department must cover all aspects of their legal needs, race, cruise, power, sail etc. I can't imagine they mess about distinguishing funds from one source or another when acting on legal matters.

Lets move on.

I am reliably told that zero money from licence fees worked their way back to cover the legal fees. Legal fees are from those who join the RYA as members. So - to make you all happy - I think most of the money would have come from the pockets of YACHTIES!
