I still find it hard to comprehend someone tampering with another boat. It's not points or winning we're talking about here, it's the possibility of a boat suddenly stopping at a crucial moment (remembering Murphy's law) and causing accident and injury or worse.
Also, we must remember that these boats take a horrendous pounding in every race, and bolts, plugs etc. have been known to vibrate loose even on the trailer journey of any reasonable distance. That's why most crews spend a long time in the morning of any race spanner checking all the bolts and checking spark plugs, pipes, intercomms etc.
That said, if anyone seriously believes that someone has done something detrimental to their boat, as Chris rightly says, they really must have proof, then something can be done. The pontoon in front of several hundred general public is not the right time to be accusing someone, but I understand the frustration.
If you were the organising club, what would you do to improve the level of security in the pit areas, bearing in mind the tight budgets that we are trying to work within, and the nature of some of the pit areas that we go to ?
