To depart being that popular, being that good, still at the top of your sport and doing what you love most gets my vote. Ian thats some act to follow and thats why they were mostly always in your wake.

Fwd from www.ocrda.org

I am not sure if you would know/remember me, I raced with OCR and was a member of OCRDA for about 4 yrs. back in the 90's with my then partner Rikki Stoodley. We had the great fortune of winning the National Championship back in 1994,
in our 16ft.Phantom "Shy-Tot" from Jersey.

During my time with OCR, I met and enjoyed the company of Ian Stirling and it was with great sadness that I read of his tragic passing. He was a true Gentleman and I consider my self priviledged to have known him during my time racing, I would like you to extend my deepest condolences to his partner and all that knew and loved him and would be grateful if you could do this for me please.

Kind regards, Caroline

And Another !!

Apart from money that's going to charity, how about something more lasting, such as an RYA yearly presentation, perhaps called "The Admirals Shield" for the most professional team, or something like that, Ian was such a well liked and nice bloke that we should keep him going a lot longer, what do you think??
Jeff.

Isn't it amazing what a profound effect one person can have on your life. And yet you only really appreciate it once they aren't there to thank and its all too late. Ian you will be missed everyday and I'm just sorry its too late to thank you for some of the best memories and experiences of my life. I'm gutted I couldn't make it on friday but I wish rohese all the best at this difficult time xx

Just for the record, Ensign Craft Ltd, the promoter of the Harwich Power Festival has gone into voluntary liquidation to the tune of £289k. Assets are about £14k. Fortunately ,SEPA, the race organisers, had no contract with Ensign Craft, so are not involved with the liquidation.

There has been strong support from local business and the council to continue powerboat racing at Harwich and SEPA is in talks with representatives of both.

The tragedy of Ian's death had no material impact on the financial collapse of the music promoter.

Any one of the many spectators who witnessed the Sunday morning tribute on water will testify to the dignity and compassion shown by Ian's competitors, friends and family. There wasn't a dry eye in Harwich, including the Mayor the council leader and ours.

As an aside, Ian's wife Rohese and co-driver Ade, have both been over here in Corsica for the 3C Worlds and every competitor from France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Italy and England has been delighted by their strength of will in attending and proves that, even now, Ian still commands international respect.

If what your saying is true barrie I would seriously look at www.creditman.co.uk or do a google search on ensign craft. Not stirring just bringing tow your attention as They are saying otherwise and you can deal with it accordingly. All the best. Paul

I'm confused, (what's new) isn't this the event that was having money from the EEC to fund it?

I thought competitors and organisers had been meeting with Euro MP's etc at the Houses of Parliament, as I seem to remember posting about it, and the huge benefits that was going to me made the the competitors?????

I note that today Ian would have turned 62 years of age.

Just wanted to say it hardly seems possible he lost his life getting on for 3 years ago. Happy birthday oul fella. Reckon He'd still be kickin a few arses if he were still around.

Absolutely agree, Stir could still kick arse, especially in the rough.
He's probably up there yacking with Paddy about the 'older I get, the faster I was'. Hopefully there will be space for us in times to come. Pint for me - coke for you.

Ian Stirling

It's great to see the Boatmad posts about Ian, but as race organisers we live with him everyday.

When we use video to promote the sport to Councils and potential sponsors, Stir seems to be always there on film, so together with the residual Harwich 2010 printed event programmes, which we constantly use and which featured him on the front cover, his soul is still involved.

It's a certainty that Ian and Paddy will have already formed a Heaven Powerboat Club ready for when we meet up there.
