Alternative Route

Out of interest, if the route from Solent to Harwich was a problem, how much interest would there be if a Harwich > Ostend > Harwich route were offered? It would total about 200 Statute miles and would be non stop, just passing along the Belgian coast.

Obviously this would mean transporting boats to Harwich as the race would be run solely from that location.

Had a chat today with some of the Harwich promoters.

All looking very cool, shed loads of bands & acts performing over the race weekend and lots of excitement showing at their end.

The Marathon race will most likely comprise of one or two short laps just off Harwich as a crowd pleaser, then off across the channel on the 200 mile round trip to Ostend, Belgium.
With sand bars and the busy shipping lanes, it should be quite a navigational task.

Obviously the 3C championship, OCR etc will make it a action packed weekend.

harwich marathon

as jon has said the harwich festival is realy shaping up to be an event not to be missed. if we want the marathon race to happen those that want to do it realy need to express there intent to enter by contacting sepa or pm me your address and i will send you an intent form.they will need an indecation of fuel needed if you want to fuel there where they are hoping to get it cheap for us and there should be start money as well.you cant get much better than that. it may seem a way off but there paperwork for marathon if its to run has to be submitted to the rya .cheers scott
