I never quite understand cases like this? What are they actually accusing the SBI of? A gross negligence in their safety and rescue crew? Which means... Not enough... Not compitent enough...? Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

He raced because he loved racing

He knew the risks

He knew what safety cover was available to him and it was his decision to race

It's tragic when a death happens

So why does his family want to destroy the sport he loved for money. I'm sure he would be turning in his grave.

And yes lessons can be learned from such accidents.

Be nice wouldnt it... but in reality, most safety crew are local volunteers, with the amount of trained officials and personel required to run a race already almost outnumbering competitors, adding to this would only drive another nail into the coffin of any motivation the organisers of races may have.

As one of those those Safety people.... to get 30-40 properly trained people out there when hardly anyone stepped up to the mark in time for last years CTC thus enabling a Cowes start it is up to us to support at an early stage so that things happen. Lots of people have said on here why can't we race the same way as they do in the States.... bite in bum comes to mind.... we can do it but put boats where mouth is. We have lost very good Safety Officers for next year because of the lack of commitment from Safety crews, volunteer I know, but if we want to have top class racing in the UK it needs 1. entrants 2. the other people that make the whole thing work. One without the other= no racing. Powerboat Racers are not the only ones getting p"""ed off. We want to see racing so lets all pull together. I do understand, possibly better than most, about the 'ban' but FCS lets try and sort at least the support.....

Have I read your post wrong?

I thought this thread was about Allweiss (Gratton Family) vs Carbonell (SBI).

Unfortunately, i feel it is the family taking out there anger on someone, This is not the first something like this has happened and it will not be the last, even if a disclaimer was signed, someone will be held accountable. We all do it when you enter a race, the element of danger is there.
As it says that someone does not want to hear that he died doing something he loved etc, they believe he would still be alive if the got to him sooner. .
It it a lose lose situation all around im afraid.

Wer may need to start a new thread on this..... Not enough soon enough or details of people who stepped up given to the right person so that they could put the plan to the RYA 2 months before the event so the RA could be formulated and agreed with ABP and other authorities.

It is, but threads move on. And it sounds like safety boats/teams are getting the blame.

We have tried for the past few weeks to work behind the scenes to get two things,” said Allweiss in a telephone interview earlier today. “One is to get the SBI’s insurance company to resolve the Gratton family’s claim. The other is work with the SBI safety and rescue folks to make sure nothing like this ever happens again. Unfortunately, the other side has not responded appropriately or quickly enough so we are going to file suit and pursue this through the court system.”

According to Allweiss, the lawsuit will accuse SBI of “gross negligence” in its safety and rescue operations during the Gratton incident and the entire 2011 SBI event.
