Being some what sceptical myself, I would read that as "We haven't got any confirmed entries yet". But we'll just have to wait and see!

Just look at the fastest growing powerboat championship in Europe at the moment, its Powerboat P1. This morning they announced that Outerlimits are joing their series, they could have kept it quiet till one week before Malta, but no, they saw an opportunity to promote the sport, not keep everyone in the dark. So just announce 2 or 3 teams who have signed up to race in the Hot Boats series and see how much interest in generates.

Someone needs to tell P1 what they're doing wrong. Surely it's far better to say nothing, in the hope that someone will turn up for the 1st race.
Cor, amateurs!

Got to agree with you. The P1 web site is great because of all the latest info it provides. As the teams are coming onboard its growing which in its self is self promoting. Last year i went to Spain for the Class 1 race, this year probably going to Malta as P1 is looking more interesting than Class 1.
Oh and hopefully the pits wont be 800 meters away
I'm only a mere spectator.

I really hope it is a great success, would love to see loads out there.
But I think that 1 or 2 are being put off by the candid answers. Thats what everybody is trying to get across here I feel ( maybe incorrectly).
I thought about it but I cant afford the time for anything but the odd Sunday fun and couldn't commit to a series, well that and my severe dress code problem

Yes i can see where your coming from with wanting to know who is racing Hotboats and names should be released, however not One other class in the UK has been asked for this information to date unless of course all clubs have released a list and i have not seen it yet.
If there are people out there who want to race and are being put off because they do not know who the compertition is then the simple answer is to contact me where i will be delighted to add their information to the list of drivers profiles that are being completed at present.
Some interesting facts for you
30% of offshore licences issued by the RYA to date are to Hotboat Crews
As for the people who feel that they must know who they are racing against before they will even consider entering all i can say is sit on the sidelines for this season and miss all the fun. For those people who are serious all the information to enter this series is avalible from either the Hotboats Racing Association or the RYA who are supporting this class fully. We will release the boats, crews etc on the team profile section on the Hotboats website as soon as the profiles are completed, it is our job to gain as much publicity for these crews as possible.
With the reference to P1 yes their website is very good and it should be they are a professional outfit with full time staff managing the website, and it is by no means their first season. Guys you have no idea the amount of work that is undertaken daily by the team at Hotboats to ensure that everything is in place. This has not been a cheap exercise at all and i for 1 have put my money and my time where my mouth is.Racing Hotboats is not compulsery if you want to be involved and race the choice is yours, the series is here and it will grow and grow but i for 1 will not hold a whip to your back to race Hotboats.
Kind regards
PS Gary still working so i am in the firing line again

i think the difference is that hotboat is completely new, where as with all the other classes people all ready know who is racing because they are established classes. i have no intention of racing im just interested in whos racing and the boats

I suspect it's the same old thing that frustrates all the organisers.
Nobody enters until the day before if the weather looks OK and they can be bothered and the boat isn't broken.
So the organisers spend a whole load of time & cash arranging the event, but the crews won't commit to the event until the last minute. The crews then get the hump when the organisers cancel the event because no crews have entered, even though all the crews claim they would have entered! (Unless it's raining).

I think the difference is that most people who follow the sport have a pretty good idea who is racing again this year in 3c, Honda etc, as it's normally the same people from the previous season, + or - a couple.

So what your saying is that you have to be a participant in the class before you can have this info.

I can only imagine that all the entrants are freemasons then.

Sounds the same in most classes, people not commiting till the last minute and the organisers having to cancel coz they can't run with possibles.
We've got 12 drivers in 2 classes this year but not enough navs to go round. So enough entrants for the series but not enough bodies to fill the boats

If anyone would like to know who is racing in 3C this year, just give me CB1 or Rhino a ring and we'll tell ya.
No problem.
If you're really keen, we can give you the actual numbers written on the boats, probable paint schemes, and approximate inside leg measurements of most of the crews.
All we have to do now is get their collective commitment letters back, and Guernsey can kick start into action.
Don't see the big deal really.
Still, it's keeping everyone thinking about it all I suppose.
Good luck all.

Copy of email to P1
From: ROBERT LEWIS [mailto:]
Sent: 02 February 2007 20:31
To: Emma Neve
Subject: P1 the only 2007 major powerboat event in the UK .
I would like to congratulate you and your team, as you are now the only major powerboat event comming to the UK this year.
Following the demise of European Provee last year, and the failure of Class1 to give Steve Curtis a home GP to celibrate his eigth World Championship. Powerboating will be a bit scarce around our shores in the UK this year.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Robert
Thank you so much for your kind email it was a nice email in a lot of not so interesting emails after my holiday!!
The Powerboat P1 British Grand Prix will again be in Cowes over the August Bank Holiday weekend of 24th to 26th and we are again looking to hold the Round Island race it would be fantastic if you were able to watch the event live but otherwise look out for the programme broadcast times on the P1 website www.powerboatp1.com
Thanks again for your support!
Emma Neve
Operations Manager
Powerboat P1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does powerboating always deliver a fatal round everytime it shoots itself in the foot?
Good job I didn't book the B&B in Plymouth this year for the Class1 GP.
