Join a club? if so which is the best?
Make alterations to the boat? if so what?
Get some new Gear? if so what?
Get a licience? if so where from?

Im serious about this should be fun so want to give it a try

The only way to learn is to give it a go......

Look guys, to me its a shame to own an ex race boat (albeit adulterated) and not let it do what it was designed for ... its like someone driving one of my rally cars around the M25 to go to work

I know that I will most prob be useless, but what the F..k at least i want to try and give it a go

To get the license you will need to have a medical done, as i found out some are expensive , so dont be put off by the first quote, look around at other surgery's to find a cheaper one

The best way to see if you like it is to do 2 or 3 Basic races
I believe Coawes/Poole maybe a basic and you can buy a day licence and between the guys on here borrow the kit you need
John Moore is a great navigater

To enter the CTC you need a basic or day licence at this time ( according to my understanding at this time, but the rules are changing faster than a whores drawes, so this is subject to confirmation) This may change, in which case you could enter the cowes-poole-cowes which should be a definate basic race. The 'day' basic licence does not require a medical, and you can do two events a year with a 'day' licence. If you want to do more basic events, you need a medical and to buy a formal 'basic' licence

If you are after a basic only licence, the V24 Powerboat Club has an incentive to encorage new people into racing, which is a years membership and the balance of the year for £10. This means you are a member for 2008 & 2009, which takes care of the cost of the 'club' you have to join to get a licence to race.

Apart from that I would suggest you hook up with someone who has done it before, and go out for a 'simulated' event, and get all the bits explained to you. The V24 Club has organised two 'days' at drivers Dry Berthing, and if there is interest, we can do so again. This would include a simulated drivers briefing, plotting the course, navigation pointers and how the whole thing works on the day.

Dont forget the RYA offer for 2008
Free Basic Licence to Newcomers, So downlaod the form from the RYA web site, medical & fill in Join V24 for a tenner & thats a huge chunk out of the way.
You could then have a crack at the devon races, Cowes & novembers basic + whatever else comes along for what is a licence freebe

If there is enough intrest tricky I'll add to the numbers to help out, make up a dummy start run, ect ect.

Here is the Licence Link: http://www.rya.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/8...MBINED9703.doc
