But as it's been removed anyway (5.1.16) has passed into history

Edit: Dup post at the same time Bri

Edit Edit:

203.02 - ADMISSION
No National Authority, or Organising Committee, organising an
International race has the right to refuse the entry of a foreign driver duly
commissioned by his National Authority, provided said driver is not within

I have just returned from a very fruitful meeting at the RYA with Mr Puddifoot and want to say it went very well I am indeed impressed and hope/feel we can work to-gether to forward OFFSHORE ENDURANCE racing in the UK under the RYA banner and achieve everything we hoped for.
Thank you John for your time and input................

09 Round the Islands (Sciliy/Britany/Chanel Island/Isle of Wight)
10 Round Ireland
11 Round Scotland

Cabin Class boats may after 20 mins of start remove crash helmets, but must put them back if the wind and sea becomes big or if the OOD advices when Offshore in big seas............

Multihulls may only run in Cabin Class.

V24 and canopied boats may run minus hatches and restraints.

All boats need to carry sufficient fuel for the longest leg.

I hope you don't mind constructive critism - A V24 would in my opinion be a hell of a lot more dangerous without doors and belts - anyone who has even sat in one would realise this and I'm suprised at JP considering this.

Banning GPS's is a great idea, but quite hard to enforce given that even mobile phones have them on now!

JP has only had these to-day/this pm !!!
My concern, and I have been out in V 24's is that if one goes over out in the Bay or anywhere there's no help.
I have put this up to get ideas and feed back...............I just want as many boats "included" as humanly possible, I believe this is supposed to be fun and safe and having raced with a canopy short of a chopper over head all the time what do I/we do......
Also i realy don't want the greif I'll get from one M ark L if I exclude a class...

As cookie quite rightly said it would not be advisable and would be extremely dangerous to run a V24 with out doors or restraints. These boats are capable of running in excess of 74 mph in a force 6 and A, you would not stay in it (there is no kill cords fitted!) and B, they stuff fairly easily which would be enough to send off with the fairy’s let alone if they went in hard you would be knocked out if not break your neck! These boats are designed to run as they are and imo no other way would be safe and would be surprised if any V24 owner/driver would consider running anything less than the norm. I would strongly recommend that you allow them to run normally or on the side of safety if you are only allowed open boats remove them from rally completely. Sorry to be negative!
I have been racing these for many years now and we are the official V24 promotional series engineers so would be quite happy to offer my assistance on any matters regarding the v24's. You can contact me on 01202 660110. Or mail racing@lsmarine.co.uk.

Try and include some sort of Alternate fuel class to keep the greens happy.

Just a thought Could I run spirit of norway in cruiser class as technically it would have a cabin

as long as it has a loo, galley and a bunk for each crew member I guess you could............

In theory, you have to do training each year to get out of an upturned boat if you drive a canopy. ( I know not many crew do the actual training - they just photocopy the certificate from ANDARK for the record.... but that is another story.. )

Part of the training - for those who actually do it - is to sit upside down breathing off a compressed air cylender. Then you make your escape.

For some unknown reason I hear that if you over turn a V24 you are trapped and need to be rescued. This is simply not the case. And, due to the protection of the canopy and harness, you are in a better condition to effect your own rescue in a canopied boat than you would be in an open boat.

Since I have started racing, four V24's have gone over, and with only one exception, the crew were 100% able to extract themselves and also did the boat recovery themselves. Try crashing into the water at 75mph in an open boat - then you have to wait to get recovered to hospital.

The one single issue with a V24 was when the air cylender was not filled!

There is also some consern from myself regarding the size that is acceptable. Ana sits for about a week sipping on air from her 5 litre, whilst I suck it dry in about 4 minutes! So I think that needs looking at, as well as the scrutineering protocols regarding air on board. Kit needs servicing anually, and cylenders need air. Additional safe guards, like 'spair air' tanks for egress, a 3 meter long pipe and diving glasses in the cockpit itself all make for a very safe environment if you flip.

If a small amount of care is taken, crashing a V24 means you end up wet. That is all. You get wet, you egress, you effect your own rescue, as no body parts are broken.

The UIM decided that the speed of deacceleration required to knock a restraint crew member out would kill a crew member of a non-canopied boat. So the risk is mitigated.

It is far safer. Even RYA records over the past 5 years show the safety for the V24 vs the open boats.

And the one serious incident actually had two safety boats, including a diver at the crash within seconds, but no one on the surface bothered to take action, and there exists a photo of one safety boat with the rescue diver reversing away from the V24, with the diver peering into the water - so not much help from the surface anyway.

In every single accident the V24 crew extracted themselves. There has not been a case where outside assistance was provided.

Thanks Marc and Lance for you time and input, if we can find away around this I/we will.

I am greatful and impressed with the response and the input; I just hope we can find away around this problem.

I understand that a few V24's will be runnng in the C/T/C so I think, subject to conformation from JP and the RYA then I hope there will be no reason for them to run in our mini endurance events, which hopefully "might" pave the way for them to do LMC.

Again all the help and input is most greatfully received, as long as constructive

I think if we play nicely in the CTC it will open up the way forward for other events.

It is a shame that canopies have such negative press. Properly constructed canopies are the best thing ever. I am supprised JP is not pressing for canopies to be adopted.

FWIW although I have only driven a V24 briefly, I believe that a canopy boat is just the opposite to popular thinking - it is actually safer than an open boat regardless of safety cover - one has to assume it is a properly built canopy of course, but that would be taken care of with scrutineering etc.

As Marc says if I were to turn a boat over offshore away from any safety boats I would rather be in a canopy boat and an air supply than having a boat land on me!

And before any says ah yes but you drive an open boat - yes I do, but I don't drive it in such a way that it is likely to turn over, and if I thought it would I wouldn't get in it!

Sorry about this Tim but my colleague Peter Myles seems to have gotten a taste for the Round Britain and wishes it known now that he (maybe, possibly, perhaps, we) intends to launch another Round Britain Powerboat Race in 2011 under the Cowes Organising Committee Ltd banner. More details will be made available after RB08.

That's great news for the sport Mike.

However, I do believe a phone call would have been more appropriate. Especially as you have known, and we have discussed in length that I wanted to do LMC originally in 2011 but due to the current economic climate decided to delay by one year. Infact only 10 days ago you told me, when asking for my help at Gunwharf, never would you do another event and Jules would leave you if you did !!

The reason we decided to do a mini marathons was due to driver request and input as the wanted there boats to be "usable" in between big events.

This now means no LMC because there is no way any competitor could afford to do marathons back to back.

Again good luck and every sucsess for RB08
