Lymington Rib Race

RIB racing returns to Lymington in September this year. A Basic RIB race is being organised along the lines of the very successful RIB races held there in '98,'99 and 2000, the classes are very straightforward from 150hp upwards. You can race, do safety or just watch, and there's a party afterwards! Take a look at this link..

Twas my first ever race and a good one at that good hog roast and just good old fun racing.

The lymington challenge has always been a grass roots race with more relaxed rules and just a "Have a Go" attitude. Really is good fun and a great booze up in the evining! Hopefully events like this wilol persuede a few rib owners to get involved and have a bit of a blast!

Had a call from Chris Strickland yesterday confirming that he ha 26 firm entries for lymington this coming Saturday and he is still happy to take more at this late stage.

As my Rib has not raced for a while I was a bit annoyed to have to get numbers made up again etc... and when I asked chris how big he wanted them he replied "Oh dont worry about the numbers we have them made up and included in the race fee, collect them when your signing in" How cool is that!

So anybody thats got a rib and wants to have fun its not too late.

When Marc was arranging a race, the big costs were the site to call 'base' and a crane. Then smaller costs wre the RYA insurance, the fees to those officials who demand them, and the frilly bits for those who do marshalling.

If you had a race of 20 boats from a site like Drivers, which has a crane ( and thus no costs ) you can put on an event for £80 per boat. When it starts getting expensive is when officials request a hotel overnight, marshals want more than petrol and a beer, and you splash out on 'hospitality'.

Obviously clubs like biboa have their own dedicated officials, and thus save costs there. They probably also plan to suplement the entry fee from club funds, and hope that the lower fee attracts enough entries to make the event pay for itself.

RYA race fee for a basic race roughly £200,
RYA officials Insurance fee roughly £500,
Officials fees £ 450,
Perks and petrol for marshals £450

Even a long distance marithon event only attracts a fee in the region of £700 to £900 from the RYA, so even those events can be run on a low budget.

Easy answer to that about Officials expecting expenses. Only ask Officials who don't expect expenses!
Although its rather nice when we do get it, so long as the the Club/ Event can afford it.

Dear Jon,

Too many black helicopters ruining your day?

I have previously ignored your comments and those of Mike Lloyd.

I am a real person ( unlike many alias on this forum ), who has met in real life several real people from this website ( mostly at Drivers) who I am sure can confirm that I have little resemblance to Marc. I do have regular contact with Marc, and once a week spend a whole day in an office with him. My views are influenced by him, but they are my views.

Having banned Ana and Dylan's accounts in your attempts to get rid of Marc, I dont see why you dont just ban mine? Why not ban everyone who knows Marc, then you can be sure you can get rid of anyone who my have an opinion other than yours.

My account may go away, but are you sure about those helicopters?

Richard.
( I dont even look like Marc )

So much so, are you influenced by 'marc' that you even miss spell all the same words that he miss spells, in the excact same way. 'Marathon' for example. (You spell it 'Marithon', just like your twin)

Funny that innit.

Forgot to mention before that Neil McGriggor has sponsored a spectator boat to veiw the race that leaves Lymington at approx 1300 hrs.

If any one would like to get out on the water to watch for free then give Chris Strickland a call on 07957 377092.
