Pro-Vee's & The Portsmouth "Ban"
My understanding was that the then QHM Portsmouth, who was less than immpressed when he attended a briefing in the same marquee as the bar, & there were several persons sleeping off the previous evenigs excesses, imposed the "ban" following the incident of the Pro Vees, who, led by Mario Invernizzi, who all, as has been noted, headed off towards France.
A heroic, or foolhardy, safety RIB owner went in to their way waving a red flag, to stop them ! (Rather like the man in front of cars on the roads in 1900). I think they did see him in time, & the race was subsequently abandoned.
It was the RYA Nationals held in Portsmouth, & with "added value" of the Pro-vees.
That all said, they were a spectacular class, in more ways than one !
Talking of rolling ribs, was not that shot of said Mario I., not taken at Cowes, just after he crossed the RYS line ?
If not, another similar incident, illustrating how volatile the single engined RIBS were, as Jon states.

I love the Pro-Vee's and had been talking to Drew Langdon about getting them all back on the water and into Marathon as there are so many just lying around including a large number in Scandinavia and at least three here. Unfortunately circumstances stopped me taking that any further and I guess it has just died. Would have been great to see 3 or 4 at Cowes.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Baby Uno currently lives on the Gold Coast in the Maritmo yard. It looks pretty sad and sorry.
I took a quick snap the other day.
I still don't know how it got there or why it has been sitting there for some time!

I may be wrong but did not Andreas Ugland race the smaller Buzzi style or rigged boats in both class 2 and 6ltr back in the 80's early 90's and they were shipping agents so they had the capability to ship anything anywhere I assume

Yes it was and after towing them back on the Saturday I can confirm they ware miserable f**kers. To be fair I think they were leading the championship at the time and were a little pissed off.

Wasn't their a 36' ex pro vee petrol engined Buzzi in Cowes with a broken gearbox, built under agreement by Fountain in the US, it was new and entered pro vee in the final few races, as it hasn't turned a prop now in many years surly that may be for sale at the right price

Dunno about their singles/pro vees, but the twin that Hanes Bohinc ran was apparently a dog, + it fell apart.

God that boat must be rotten by now. Not even a cockpit cover? Why do people buy boats then let them rot? I've never understood that.
