Marathon Commitment
So guys it's got to be time now to commit.
What I would ask you all to do is to join this thread with a list of races that you are going to commit to. No ifs, no buts, just pure commitment.
As Larby says about Guernsey, we don't know if you can drop a race, no one has made a decision. I don't think it was up to me to do this? Or was it?
I for one believe that the Marathon Championship should be RMYC, 2 X Cowes and Weymouth, as it looks as though Guernsey has fallen by the wayside, although I stand to be corrected. I do agree with Larby that it really is a great place to race, as those with long memories will recall ...
So who's commiting:
I have the first: Tony Toll: RMYC, (entry paid!!), CTC, South Coast. Well done !
Cinzano: RMYC, 2 X Cowes, South Coast.

Agreed Cookee - I too thought that ORDA's race at Torquay was round 1.
Apart from that, it is good to see you getting competitors organised & ready to commit Simon - but while I agree with maybe putting Guersey aside, sadly, due to cost implications (Sorry Larby) surely the Torquay Race could be given a chance ?
The RMYC Race, in memory of Annie will be a "must" of course, and including Torquay would allow for competitors to drop their worst performance (or retirement ?), and still compete in a good championship.
Just my humble thoughts of course, Good luck to all who commit to compete.

Marathon
I also thought that Torquay was going to be round one of the Championship after attending the ORDA AGM.
If we are not careful we are going to end up with just a couple of Race's this season.

I truly hope Torquay is the first race and is well attended!! I'm putting all the local marathon efforts into that race instead now to make it a bit more special. Also, it gives me an opportunity to prove to everyone over here that the Marathon boats do want to come here. Won't go down well if no one turns up!
We have a club race on the Saturday too. Depending on the time they arrive, any marathon competitors will be able to watch this before settling into the evening's entertainment. Anyone who wishes to cruise over is more than welcome and anyone with a sub 30ft boat is welcome to join our club race too!
Cheers, James

A series is a series. I do not beleive that Marathon racers should be allowed to 'drop' a race. If they are a no show..... then they lose the ablitiy to get points from that round. We need to make all rounds count to be fair to the organisers.
Lets support the clubs that are giving up there time and effort to put our races on
Torquay IS round 1.... and is on

Marathon Series
Well done to all those who spotted the deliberate mistake !
Torquay is of course round one ...
Having been plunged into this position I feel that a degree of decision is required so here they are:
1). Championship will be as follows:
TORQUAY
RMYC
COWES 100
CTC
WEYMOUTH
2). Rules as per PB1, to include this years changes re safety equipment.
3). No "compulsory" races.
4). All results to count.
5). Standard RYA points allocation.
6). Forward commitment needed ASAP from all teams.
7). Advance race details and then instructions to be published on Boatmad Marathon Forum
Any comments ? (its too late !!).

RMYC race
The Advance notice and Marathon pre-entry form for the RMYC June race is already posted on the RMYC June race thread, we are also using the following two web sites to post information :-
http://www.rmyc.co.uk/?q=node/76
http://www.rya.org.uk/programmes/pow...gulations.aspx
We will be working on the race instructions over the next two months, these have to be approved by the RYA race approval committee on the 4th May, and so we hope to post soon after this meeting.
