Hi Jon,
Aside from a showcase it would be a once in a lifetime adventure as I'm sure you already know, cats or no cats it will be one hell of an event for Ireland and long overdue!
As for 3C, I would love to race but unfortunately can't. We don't race offshore here at present, and without seat time I cant get an international license required to race in the UK.

My reaction is simply the result of months and months of people wanting change to suit them, and that goes right up to the very top, believe me.
Alans cat should be showcased in 3C (where there have been a couple of 21 Skaters before, 'Guernsey Skater', and 'Raving Mad' )
That would seem to me to be the perfect platform. (I'm assuming of course it still fits the rules)

Agreed, the long distance events are fantastic! Especially circumnavigating your own country. Assuming the cat's aren't allowed in this race (completely up the organisers) is there not a group of you guys who could put something together to have a crack at it as a team? It doesn't need to be a fancy, shiney bling thing afterall, it just needs to go well & be reliable! (see Warlord rebirth thread)

Now that's a shitty situation! Real chicken/egg scenario.
I know the cost would be a bit prohibitive, but would entry into a couple of basic races over here be possible?
The licence sounds virtually impossible as is, I wonder if it's worth contacting the RYA to see if you could get a UK licence? at least in the short term, then once 'qualified', see about getting registered back in Ireland with the full licence rating. I don't know squat about the Irish racing, or licence situation, just making suggestions.
Jon

I'm fairly certain you could get a British licence to race so long as you don't have an Irish one at the same time.

That's certainly the theory. I held a Dubai Licence & UK licence at the same time many years ago. when the RYA heard that I'd had both, they weren't best pleased. Apparently the Dubai International Marine Club, who issued the licence, should have retained my RYA-UK licence. They didn't seem too worried about the finer details over there back then (1992/3) so I had dual nationality, so to speak.

Well, she is from outer space after all.
Sorry Sarah, BTW, you'll need to keep those lads in check, especially that Johnny Hedges.

You might be, but it would be out of character for Sarah to be!
JH might just learn a thing or two.
Be warned though, you could both get the 'genital cuff' if you step outt'a line.
Anyways, first things first. You need to go and finish that boat, or it's all just talk. (and talk is very cheap, and very easy)
