Probably, but ours is a walk in the park really. Put the transom assy back together yesterday. should have the motors back in early next week.

Bit of testing with the 'new improved' ECU mapping, and we're away.

Needles

JF the boat look good at the boat shows you went to. Shame its not on the
water cos you only had all year to get it ready for the Mathrathon series you
tried to promoter. Not so good for the clubs who put on a race for you series and have to pay a CALENDAR FEE TO RYA and boats do not
bother to turn up Makes you
wonder whey the organisers bother. Cliff

There are a few reasons why we won't be at Needles. It was completely within our control to be ready for Needles if we wanted to, but we didn't. Nothing to do with not making the effort.

Don't really think it's productive to discuss this on the net though, so I'll just leave it that as planned, we won't be racing at the Needles Trophy event, not this year anyway.

No, the 295hp motor is more than just an ECU change. they have differing intercooler, turbocharger, injectors, etc, etc, etc. (and interestingly, a different harmonic damper & serpentine belt system)

So these will just be 250's on steroids, hopefully close to the current sterndrive version which is now 280hp, Still quite dainty for a 32 footer.

At 3.2 & 3.0 litre, these and the Yanmar BY's are remarkable really at close to 100hp/litre from a production diesel. getting on for twice that of my grumbly old GM V8's. If the GM's were the same state of tune, I'd have over 1100hp in the 28! (and a garage full of busted Bravo drives)

100hp/litre used to be pure race diesel territory only. So things have moved on a long way in recent years, and it can only get better. Shame about the cost of the fuel nowadays!

The attached document was approved by the RYA yesterday.
It was requested by the Marathon organisers as the fairest combination of available rules.

Also the 295's are tuned more for jet drives, so I'm not sure how this would work in a race boat?

What does that mean? What kind of tune do jet drives need?

Steyr will only supply the wastegated turbo version (more power down low) for sterndrive applications. This is because they have concerns about heavier boats getting on the plane without the wastegate torque advantage.

The 295 is only available non wastegated.

The jet pump installation doesn't require the same low down grunt (they overcome the turbo lag more easily)

We wanted the non wastegated engines for swipewipes, but they wouldn't let us have them.

They're a bit narrow minded like that.

I can understand it for the general retail sales where the install could end up in a very heavy craft, but a little disappointed that they wouldn't trust our opinions.

So I don't think it's so much a 'tune' issue. just inherited characteristics from the boost control type.

Good line up D~OOD. Congratulations in pulling it all together. I hope you have a great day because you deserve it. I'm sure the guys will have a lot of fun as well.

I see Tony Hamiton is running in Bounty Hunter (beautiful boat), hope he doesn't need a lift out again by a chopper as he did in the RB08
