New Race Series.

Heres the deal,12 identical 27ft. boats,12 different colours,12 identical 300 optimax engines,12 identical trailers,6 venues,DUNOON,DOUGLAS,ABERSOCH,PENARTH,COWES,GEURN SEY.I ship everything to each venue, provide a marquee and bar for the party, all you have to do is turn up with a co/driver,life jackets and crash hats, draw straws for which boat you race.WHAT would you pay to have a go?Come on,humour me,I am crazy enough to do this, advertising spaces will be sold to sponsors for each boat or let your firm sign write it for the season(for a fee of course)Any ideas taken on board and more than welcome.

Here's a thought: how about one or two boats are solely for the use of a local team in each area, like a Wildcard-type thing?
Wish I had the money, this would be about as painless a racing gets I'd imagine (for the drivers anyway...)

Think you already know that Jon,refer back to recent P.M. and add 2ft.Course would be as close in as water would allow for spectators, length,no idea as yet,see what comes back from general consensus of boat madders.

That would depend on who's prepping them.
It would be somewhat frustrating to lose a race, or championship through technical failure on a boat you had no say in the preparation of.

Dowdy, sounds very interesting. Would you need to get the boats coded as you'll effectively be chartering them? Or wouldn't that apply?

My own series,my own rules,Kerry Packer style,of course every body would need a basic license ala R.Y.A but would want it as basic as poss,no arguing,no winging and most importantly of all,no cheating,no one has any access to the boats till race day, then its down to the driver.

All the boats would be identical and rigged exactly the same in every respect, would bring Paul Scott in to help rig them, you go to a go kart course and dont start tweaking your engine before you razz off do you? Jump in and go is the name of this game, rules and regs will be barest minimum.

I like the sound of this....

After David Sewell and I started the Honda series, he talked to Suzuki about doing something similar to what your proposing.

I seem to remember that the plan was to have identical boats, but unlike the Honda series there would be a lucky dip on race day as to which boat you raced. I was asked to build a demo boat, but it all fell flat when we asked them to send me a motor to show that they were serious. I still breathe a sigh of relief that they didn't.

Hope you've done your sums on costings etc, as I reckon I made perhaps 150 quid per boat, as well as loosing all enthusiasm for racing!

a 300XS powered 27 would be interesting, what do you reckon you could put one on the water for?

Austin Roberts geusstimates a lightweight p27 for 7k,no frills, with built in bow tank, two seats, ally tanks make myself, trailers make myself,Jacos emailed me with 15250 dollars on engines would need mercs permission first tho, would build 15,3 as "spares",just in case, dont want any wingers turning up and conking out,if i broke even on it would be more than happy, selling the ponderosa soon ,money not an issue, going to build a "little" bungalow for me and mrs and hopefully this with a bit of the change and something out of the advertising budget.

Why not do this in line with existing classes ?? 3c, 3b, OCR, V24, etc. would make it a lot more viable and would give a market to sell the boats to when you have had enough.
Just a thought !!

im not sure i understand, seems the small details like venues are considered above and beyond the boat... or have i missed the point!

Have you ever seen the state of a hire go kart, shit the overalls and gloves are scary enough..... There would have to be some HEAVY deposits to ensure ur own financial security, unless ur a clown... and that might just be enough to scare alot of people in such a uncontrolable enviroment.

Your not a drunken internet surfer like myself r u??
