I am aware that it was the RYA offering this fantastic deal. I would however need to join an affiliated club, and I believe ORDA would be the most appropriate with regards to which class and series I race next year (Unless you know of anyone else?).
I also stand corrected on the model of my Bakdraft, which is infact the 22 as pointed out by our friend Scand.
As this subject is a hot topic at the moment, I have discussed my plans with people in the know. I have just been advised that my Hull was actually designed for 3B, and is a light weight version of the Bakdraft. Therefore my original plans to race 3C may be in jeopardy, due weight regulations.
If two other parties are seriously interested (Hopefully more.), then please contact me. A 3B championship for 2008 is now a serious possibility, with the backing of all the relevant authoritys!!

I am still looking for a boat...would ideally like to build one but don’t know if I will have enough time this winter…

The min kg for 3B epa is 635+20kg !!!!
All 3B boats compets together , it is only on class !
A GREAT CLASS !!!!
It seems like there is a huge interest for this class ! That pleases me alot !
The class is increasing alot in Norway at the moment , and it has been huge in Sweden and can be again !
If you guys in UK get the class going than the interest in the nordic contrys will increase as well !
The goal should be that we have a international race in year 2009 in UK with enterys from bouth Sweden Norway and Finland !
If someone is interessted in this class thay can PM me !
We have a lot of experience in this class here in Sweden !
Maybe we should start a new tread here on BOATMAD just for 3B !

Does Marc Pascoe still build the Backdrafts ???

He never has, he just owns the moulds, and used a splash (having negotiated a royalty fee) of the running surface for his 7 metre rib.
The moulds look like an elephant has crapped in them.

I have decided to sell my cruising boat and go a head with a class 3B project. Needs must. I am also planning to design and built the boat myself with the help from some friends. Will post a preliminary spec as soon as I have one…can’t wait!

I am working on a new version now with more conventional side-by-side seating so that it can serve a leisure use asswell. I have not calculated how much extra air resistance this will add but I don’t think it will be too bad. Also adding 2 steps with pads on the next version. Measured length will be around 5.75 m. Beam of the planing surface will ca 1.30 meter. Deadrise is about 23 degrees. Made a quick model of the V4 Evinrude to things would look installed. Will post some more pics later….

Wasn’t the B-19 designed for 3B and B-23 designed for 3C?

yes however this was a lightweight b23 built in the b23 mould with a small chamfer block placed in the mould at the back so that it measures for both 3c and 3b.

Whats a b-19?
was that a shorter backdraft or did it have the stylings of the b-23?
Cheers, Max

The design of the 3B boat is going really well.
The hull design is now 95% complete.
Some pics here to show the current progress...
