A bold statement to make when those ACTUALLY competing THIS year have not been consulted.........
Once again, a case of too many oars in the water methinks....

Powerboat GB
Has this come out of the proposal submitted by all the offshore clubs at the Extra-Ordinary General Meeting on 9 May; ie to collaborate together to hold 4 or 5 big major events next year - or is this something completely different?

Following an Extraordinary ORC Meeting in May to discuss the future of Offshore Racing in the Uk all club delegates attending were kind of on the same level.
We left with the task of forwarding proposals to the various clubs and I sent this out to start the ball rolling. To date other than a brief discussion with Mark Brewster (on behalf of ORDA) I have heard nothing.
The way I understand things now are that the RYA are in discussions with some independant people to perhaps try and get a new take on things to put on a series for ALL classes on a one a month basis for 2013.
This was sent to those that showed some interest at the meeting !!
"Seems we may actually have realised that most of us are trying to achieve a similar goal. Obviously I have some fairly strong views based on a few years of continued experience.
I have felt for many years that a joint committeee made up of 4 or 5 regional clubs would be the way forward but seems we had to get to absolute rock bottom before some realised this despite full agreement every time it was mentioned..
I kind of lost who was in or out and still dont really know who is really keen to support this concept, I got the feeling that you were possibly talking the most sense and on the right wave length so if we can kick start something then maybe that is a way forward.
If we are to form a committee I feel strongly that those involved need the authority of the individual clubs to act on their behalf as it will not work if you have to take every detail of every proposal back to your individual club committees. I also feel that the group needs to be kept to a minimum initially with South, South West, East perhaps welsh, possibly Channel Islands and Irish regions (as an idea) !!
Key Points all with very valid reasons as to how these came about and most well proven !! (please feel free to call and discuss)
2 / 3 Day Events
I feel that 4 multi Events this year would be ambitious enough
Mixed Classes
Mixed Long & Short Lap Courses
Numerical Boat Numbers (No need for prefix on non international classes)
Timed Heats
50min + lap (approx 1hr) on 1 day
Split Heats other day (with split points)
Rolling & Standing Starts
All venues need to have good local facilities.
ie Camping (Tents as well as Campers)
A Volunteer Club type Base
Good Public Viewing (Both Pits & Race)
Toilets / Showers
Parking
Good Slip Way
If Cranes are required then Entry Fee Is increased for those requiring Crane ie Marathon
Reasonable equal Entry Fees. (£150 per weekend)
Each region to promote and run local club races
OCRDA are working with UKFFORC and trying with Thundercats, and I would like to think they will come on board with this, at the moment we are committing to Cardifff with them and hope they will commit to Plymouth with us I am happy to look at Torquay as a Multi Class for this year and feel it might help you understand better If we have a chat about Torquay. I will look at dates to again try to accomodate Thundercats as well as Zapcats I also think we need to look at Portsmouth area if we can get a commitment from Guernsey (maybe for next year )
That's Probably enough to start ball rolling !!
If you feel this is all pie in the sky then please let me know before we all waste any more time on it."
I am sure the potential promoters would rather not see lots of the usual comments on Boatmad so PLEASE positive posts only or please feel free to PM , Email or call either me or John Puddifoot with ideas.
I will try and get Simon (ORC Chairman) to post the minutes of the meeting.
Bob

I would love to see a round of this possibly come to Ireland, Im fairly certain given the size of the potential fleet that we could get some pretty good event sponsorship/ subsidised travel/ferry cost etc. depending on the venue.

A further press release, The next stage is to invite all active RYA affiliated clubs to put forward a delegate to form a joint central committee.

By the powers of deduction I am guessing that is either Mr Wood-Power or Mr Sewell?
