P1 roll over

From P1 site

During Sunday’s Powerboat P1 Evolution Class endurance race in Gothenburg, Sweden, an incident involving Lucas Oil Outerlimits resulted in American pilots Nigel Hook and Joe Sgro being taken to Sahlgrenska hospital, Gothenburg, for precautionary observations, where they were both witnessed talking and comfortable.

Lying in second position behind leaders 2B1 Furnibo on lap ten, Lucas Oil Outerlimits appeared to barrel roll to the outside at the first turn at the South-West end of the Langedrag racecourse.

Rescue divers from the Bergamo Scuba Angels arrived at the scene in a matter of seconds and cleared the pilots from the canopy before Messrs Hook and Sgro were escorted to shore.

Powerboat P1 Chairman and CEO Asif Rangoonwala said: “Everyone at Powerboat P1 is delighted that both Joe and Nigel are safe. Unfortunately these things happen in motorsport racing and both pilots are amongst the best in the business, so we all wish them a speedy recovery.”

Now thats gonna be expensive!

At least the trailer is ok

These multiple stepped hulls have a tendancy to do strange things by the looks of things....

Spinout at 2.54 minutes. Nice video though!

There was a similar accident at the Stavanger Poker Run here in Norway earlier this year (see http://www.dagbladet.no/2009/06/06/n...aland/6592952/ - sorry, it's in Norwegian but there are some images) with an Outerlimits. 2 people got stuck in the cockpit but fortunately help was seconds away. Outerlimits are known to make excellent boats, but makes you wonder when 2 accidents with experienced drivers happens within short time. Maybe they are not made for Scandinavian summers...

On a different note, the GF 36 RIB is actually not the one from RB08 but is Goldfish's new "demonstrator". They entered as a wild card entry in the P1 and came in a remarkable 4th. The twin diesels and comparatively short hull evidently was like bringing a knife to a gunfight, and it speaks volumes about the team (and the other teams' misfortune ) that they managed 4th place when the other boats were pure racers with twin ilmors, 625's etc.

Everything's good. Had a summer of mainly crap weather, but nonetheless we've had some nice trips up and down the coast. Waiting for you to decide what class you'll be in in RB12 so that we can make sure we'll show up in something faster

And you?

Those stepped hulls seem to be involved in a number of incidents over the years - or is it just me?!

Just from my experience and I am by no means an expert sometimes the inside step on a corner can dig in and cause a spin out, obviously worse case scenario is a rollover. I have a 19ft skiboat with one step and it can be lethal if not treated with the righ respect, as all boats can.
