Good ... King of Shaves actually hit Outerlimits on the port side aft ... right at the end of the clip. Outerlimits crew did not realise it had happened until after the race! Only a small couple of paint scrapes.

To be fair, you'd need to establish who was at fault first. It may be that Lucas oil closed the door on King of Shaves, causing the collision. Rather hard to tell from that video.

Very true but overtaking vessel has to avoid contact as do any one racing, I'm curious JF how/why in honda and now P1 this is allowed, are the rules so far removed from those you and I are used to racing under?? Because we both know what might be the next result.
I am still incredulous over the incident in Germany that ended so tragically.

P.S. Does P1 have an RYA observer the same as normal racing in UK?

Tim

I have to say that some of your comments on here worry me. You really do seem a little out of touch.

Boats in P1 are not allowed to crash into each other and the same overtaking rules (collision avoidance) apply in P1 and everywhere else. We all race under UIM as do the RYA.

The reality in this video (trust me ... we were in the middle of that lot trying to keep of of the way of two boats with 20mph more speed than us!) is that you have boats going round an artificially tight corner (imposed by the harbour master to keep us out of the shipping channel and off the beach) at speeds in excess of 80mph for all of us. We all apply the same rules and most of the time it works very well.

With these boats, they don't really hit, as the pressure forces water up between the hulls. It's a bit like British touring cars ... they are not supposed to hit ... but they do. They only get DQ'd if they win position through the action.

If you watch the incident in Germany, it is fairly obvious that the following boat (in which the driver died) with good visibility, made no attempt to miss the boat in front which was slowing. I have not heard the result of the autopsy, but I would suspect the problem started long before the impact.

I don't post on here very often, but for someone who supposedly like boats, it would be nice if you could find something positive to say every so often rather than bashing everything in sight!

Mikey,
thanks for answering my question, the reason I asked them in a very simplistic way is because when we were discussing the events of friday the other day some people kept pointing uout that you are not running under racing rules but navigational pleasure rules !! Hence my question.
Also if you read what we were saying you will see that ALL of us are on YOUR side but not the eway you are made to suffer.
You even admitted on here you refused to go on the podium because of the farce..................
I do sincerely believe that if we, those of us who love the sport back the drivers maybe just maybe the organiser who are not only cheating the competitors with the rules as they are might just wake up to the fact that they are also cheating the specatators who without whom no sponsors would come forward.
I am also sure as I wrote the other day that you and Jackie and all the other drivers do not work you butts of 365 days a year to be treated the way you were on friday??
As for germany and viewing the footage, like you, the first time I saw it would think that some medical incident had happened quite qa few seconds before impact( I sincerely hope I have fraised that diplomaticaly).
No offence is meant to any one competing in P1 it is really try to understand the way the thing is portrayed.

On first viewing of this video I think the guys on King of Shaves probably cut through the rooster tail from Extreme and had no knowledge of the fact that the outerlimts boat was there until it was too late. Hey, sh*t happens.
