Penzance for P1 ?

Penzance Town Council will find out in the next two weeks if its bid to bring the Powerboat P1 World Championships to the town has been successful, say BBC Cornwall.

The Council has submitted a bid to hold a round of the Championship racing along Penzance Promenade in Mounts Bay over the weekend of 22-23 May 2010.

A meeting will be held between the Council and the Championship organisers in the next fortnight.

If the bid is successful, the event could return for another four years.

Penzance's chamber of commerce chairman Mike Waters said: "Businesses are extremely excited about the event and the spin-offs for Penzance as a whole."

We hold ourselves in readiness!

Lovely.A circuit race around the west country exclusion zones. So that 3 months to sort a course out.About right by powerboating standards.

Before everyone starts getting excited at the mouth watering prospect of seeing Mr Langdon and Mr Jennings racing in their back-garden, I have it on very good authority that if P1 go to Penzance this year it will be with the SuperStock class only.

So the first three rounds would be Split, then Penzance followed by Gallway, where they will race on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Will be great if it does take place in the UK especially for the UK teams, just as a wild thought would it be worth engaging discussions with the marathon organisers/racers to see if some sort of amalgamation could be done with the 2 starts, the P1 boats doing multi lap inshore spectator viewing friendly laps with the marathon boats doing much longer runs out to a marker much further afield and thereby doing say only 4 or so laps, my thoughts are more classes more boats more awareness and the likelihood of a greater market potential for the powerboat spotlight

Yes it will be the new Superstock series only - they have also announced that Pwhelli is on the calendar now as well as a round in Sweden and the finals on "The South Coast" somewhere.
