Wacky, I'm sure your right about p 201 being John Lonsdales number and Chasewater boat numbers were prefixed "P" but didn't John's old boat put in an appearance at some of the British nationals this season? Did he have more than one P21?

Hi Gar163y, Is there any way of me getting hold of John Lonsdale. There was no visible signs of a name on the boat but the number could be seen clearly on the white panel. This suggests to me, that the number had been there for quite some time.

I never knew John beyond nodding terms. I believe he lived fairly local to the Chasewater club in Cannock where he was a member. I think other people still currently ski-racing should be able to help or perhaps another Chasewater member. I first met John in the late 80's when he was race organiser of the All-Regions. We had travelled up early on the Thursday and when he found out that we had been on the water for some unofficial practice he tore me off a strip! The midlanders liked to keep their freshwater advantage.

John Lonsdales boat ended up a sort of purple colour and was ski-raced very recently, cannot remember name of feller who bought it, fairly big lad with red hair i recall.

Hi Bazza, this being the case, it's not his. All I could get from the guy I bought it from, was that he bought it from a guy who was in the british forces, stationed in Portugal, I think. I've owned her since the end of September last year (2005). she has been silver, black and other colours, including some fluresent yellow and orange. She had been beached a lot on gravel, going by the gell coat damage underneeth.

Hi, did you have any problems with the structural parts of the boats or gel coat etc? (apart from the repairs you mentioned?), anything that might be a result of the age of the boat?
I might be doing one soon so was wondering if I'm likely to find any nightmares in stringers/transom etc?
Cheers, Max

Hi Max, No, nothing serious. I had the floor and tank out, went through as much of the structure as I could. The major problems wer, removing all the different coats of paint, then filling all the gell coat damage. In my opinion, she is a very strong boat but she was abused. If you send me an email address I can send you pics of the stages.

Hi Lars, don't scare me. I was advised to fit the xl as per the transom length. What problems could I come up against?

Yes Bazza, his name's Roy and I'm sure he knows John Lonsdale well.

Hi all, I,ve recently received an email from the BWSF "Peter,
Yes this was John Lonsdale's boat in later years sold to Peter Taylor and then Roy Taylor if you look on the right hand side of the engine well there is a number from that it is possible to trace the history."

This was based on the number P201 but if it was raced very recently, it can't be the same boat.

The plot thickens

This is not the purple hull as that is a later boat with molded screen circa 96 I think, and the colour is in the gel, I am talking about the boat that he had before the purple one.

if i were you i had mounted the motor in the same holes like before! Mine was also mounted 3cm out of centre. On a 5m30 fletcher and 140hp. If i would reinstall it again i would set it 4cm out of the center. What they here say is right by moving your battery etc to the other side. Vut if your boat is lying on the dock it's not floating flat. Just take her out for a ride an see what it says... Testing is the only way to know it! I hope she performs well. You did a nice rapaint.

Good luck!

Hi Bigboy, your comments are noted. This is something I had no idea about. I've had her out once but the weather was a bit rough and I didn't want to push it, first time out. I'll see how she behaves the next time. Thanks for your comment, re repaint. Allgrip is difficult to paint but a great finish. Should see her through the next ten years or so.

Another thing to take into account, is that the original mounting holes look a bit elongated in the pic of the transom, not a good thing.

I'm sure it'll be fine in the centre, and it has nice shiney new holes!
