Phantom 21
Can anyone tell me, if it's possible to find out anything about a boat from it's race number.
I've recently refurbished a Phantom 21 and would like to try and find out some history on her. Her race number was P201.
Cheers, Peter

Was it raced here in the UK, or there in spain?
Is there a wee number on the right hand side of the transom, there should be, and this will tell what year it was manufactured.

Hi JF, All I've managed to find out is: she was taken to Portugal, by a British services man, then brought back to the UK and sold on. So I presume she was raced in the UK. When I took the 15 different coats of paint off her, there was two panels, on the quarters, of white gell coat, with the number visable. There was a number on the RH side of the transom, it looked like 86 then a damaged part, then 07. Apparently there is another number, under the topsides but I can't find out where. Any ideas you can offer would be great. Thanks. Peter

Peter, have you looked at This thread? from what you've said about the remenants of the transom HIN number, your boat could be an '86. does it have a rivited-on screen?
Idealy, if you could post a picture of the deck style, and one of the lower transom area (bottom of the vee) we can probably date it faily accurately.
John Hedges (Blufin on this forum) has a great knowledge stuff from that era, he may know if it was raced in Offshore.
It could of course, have been a Ski race boat, the number doesn't actually sound like that of any regular offshore class, so maybe one of the ski racers on here can shed some light on it...try posting this question in the ski racing section.

That's a model from the changover year, where they had the new style hull with pad keel, but the older deck. The following year they got a new one piece deck.

its to counteract the prop torque ,ie, the propelor is spinning in a clockwise rotation and the hull is being thrown anticlockwise. The motor is offset to starboard to counteract this....

JF, when you say "the change over year" was that 96? Is there any way I can find out more about her, ie, where did she race? Did she have a name? Who raced her? anything I can find out would be good.

No not at all, you should be able to trim the boat correctly by moving things like your battery, trim pump, etc around.
offset is more widely used on smaller hulls with large HP.
Looks like you have done a good job!

I'm not 100% sure, but if it was a ski race boat a p numbered boat may have been a Penarth boat, but like I said I'm not sure it

You're right there
Centre setup is ok on a P21, p 201 was John Lonsdale's number from Chasewater, his boat was called the Patriot, and think was blue, are there any signs of a name, think I have a pic somewhere, see if I can find it.
