Powerboat Taster Day

Powerboat Taster Day

Where? Allhallows Yacht Club, Allhallows-on-Sea, Kent
When? Saturday & Sunday 25th & 26th April 2009
What? Powerboat Taster Day (Sat) Basic Powerboat Race (Sun)
Who? Anyone who wants to have a go! – Novices or National Racers

Why not come and have a go at Powerboat Racing?

Saturday, boats will be provided; all you need to do is complete an RYA Event Licence form (available on the day) and you can experience a taste of the thrill of powerboat racing alongside an experienced Racing Driver! Various boats from different classes will be available to try and there will be many racers, old and new, on hand to answer your questions and provide you with contacts and details of how to get started in Offshore Powerboat Racing. You will have a chance to see videos and television footage of this exciting sport as well as an opportunity to experience it first hand! (Minimum age requirements are 16 with written parental permission)

Sunday, there will be a basic race for any offshore race or ski boat, subject to the usual AYC criteria laid out below. This is a chance for the National crews to blow away the cobwebs before the start of the season or an opportunity for newcomers to race their own craft and have a go. Non licence holders will be required to purchase an RYA Event Licence (available on the day) and undergo a seaworthiness and safety check on their craft.

Up to 2.5 litre (boats to be commensurate with engine size)
Over 2.5 litre (boats must be over 23ft)
Canopy boats cannot be accommodated

Social arrangements: There will be a BBQ, the bar will be open till late and hot and cold snacks are available, so bring along your family and friends. Shower and changing facilities are available on site. Tents and campers are also welcome. The emphasis will be on a FUN weekend!

To guarantee a place – please ring or email to book. Entries accepted on a first come – first served basis but enquires welcome on the day)

Event Co-ordinator: Sheena Williams (01634) 221606

Fingers crossed for the weather, lets hope it's as good as last year. Looking forward to getting back out after a long cold snowy winter.

The basic course looks good with East Blyth as a turn mark, it can get quite bumpy out there. It's caught many people out in the past.

Steve Bourne in Poco Homes (P21) 1982 springs to mind.

Brass's accident was much further eastward in the estuary, out towards Sea Reach No. 1 bouy.

We saw the stuff happen, directed the helicopter and towed the cat in.

It has never been cheap to run a race boat, now that Gordon Brown's credit bubble has burst - I would suspect harder so.

I'm desperate to get out there and have a go but can't justify the expense (Its a long way from Weston)and people locally have forgot how to buy a Van or I've forgot how to sell them-Not Sure but this is the worst month I've had in the motor trade for 34 years.and currently I'm Credit Crunched.(Skint).Hoping to tag racing on to a long family weekend away in the summer-I'm sure 'she' won't notice the boat on the back-I can allways say its to transport the kids bikes.Have a great weekend and will look forward to seeing the pictures/stories.
