Ramsgate 05

Popped down to Ramsgate today to take a look at the racing.

first off was the Hovercraft race!...not sure I'll be taking that one up!

Hovercraft

Second up was V-24, those boats are simply fantastic...so fkkn pitch stable, totaly awsome! by the time v24 were running, the sea was chopping up quite nicely, which it continued to do through-out the day.

Short V-24 vid

Then the F200/rib/3-C mixed class thingy.

Cookee went pretty well, getting a second to the 9M diesel Pascoe boat in rib/F200.

But the star of the day was Ian Stirling in his Phantom 21, who won 3-C by a fkkn mile, lapping plenty of stuff in the rough conditions.

It was fantastic to see a completely stock 'pleasure/ski' boat do so well in offshore racing, hopefully it will inspire a few more people to have a go with their ski boats. That fella can really drive a Phantom!!! Fantastic Job Ian!!

2 Litre highlights

For anyone who doesn't know, Ian Sterling is responsible for the most exciting piece of race footage of recent times, from his race in OCR out in Gibraltar in 2000.

Have a look here

PS...You WILL need a Broadband connection to view these videos, at least if you wanna see em this week!

And the crane marshal in the pic is Godfrey Steele who has been attending races for years as a volunteer. He was at Poole last weekend.

Talk about dedication, he never even gets to see the race as he never leaves the crane area. I wonder how many people bother to thank him for his efforts?

that boat needs more stickers!....did it used to be "prodigy" or sommink similar?

its not my intentioon to be direspectfull, but some of the more glamerous teams must have felt a bit embarassesd that some old beardy in a phantom started to show them all how its done

those 21's look pretty good with motors on dont they

I don't think too many people would be embarased by getting wooped by this particular 'old beardy' (who incidentaly reads this forum)

He has a fair reputation in OCR, where of course he's used to a smaller boat.

Can we assume you now have a 'welfare motah' hangin orf the back a ya boat then Mr Chaos?

I can think of another old beardy whose performance on the water of late would not be one to emulate.

welfare motah? no idea what your talking about! but yes its on! 5 feckin hours later. dont ask, just dont bloody ask!! *

My last post wasnt meant to slight our bearded friend. I was actually my intention to point out my view that in any motorsport, you can have the best equipment availible, but if your shite, your shite.............give a good driver a half decent bit of kit; then youre cooking!

as i said before, there must have been some red faces!

incidently, is Ian a boat reviewer for some of the better known magazines? or am I way orf?

* and i didnt have the 'ump this morning thankyou DAD!

We had FIVE V24 boats at the event.... but unfortunately Gavins navigator dropped him in the shyte and would not race.

So we only had 4 boats out there.

I had a moment of mad joy, nipping in after a very slow race, to steal first place from Clif Smith in V2, passing him in the air on the finish line. I was handed the checkered flag by the committee boat, and arrived back to sign in after the race, to find I had only come second

I had only stopped V2 from lapping me ( he had lapped me and I passed him to 'unlap' myself

Still, the joy was great for those 5 minutes... ( oh, I also fell off my boat at the crane in and landed in the drink. )

A few more podium pics of BM members:

V-24 Honours....chap on the right looks very tricky to me!

And of course, Cliffy Smiff & Mark Bridges. (1st place)

Don't know the fella on the left, but until he broke, he was absolutely flying!! (red boat in V-24 vid) ..in a totaly different class, real shame he broke down.
