What I am getting at is that there should not be a rule that stops any seaworthy boat from entering a race event such as this one. It should be an 'all commers' event, with everyone who thinks they can complete one of the three races knowing that they can enter.

My understanding as that only the Peveril race is being run as a basic event. There has been some talk of event licences being granted to RB08 entrants for the CTC, but I don't have a definitive answer.

I've put a note on the "facts" page, and it will be updated as soon as there's a definitive answer.

The 'Fact Sheet' says the P1 entrants were carried over, and are on the BPRC website. (http://www.britishpowerboatracingclub.co.uk/v24.htm, http://www.britishpowerboatracingclub.co.uk/class3.htm, http://www.britishpowerboatracingclub.co.uk/class4.htm)

But neither James's nor my entry appears?

Both of us have had refund cheques in the post today from P1.

Do we need to re-enter? Do we need to fill in an entry form for the new event?

Can someone clarify the bits we need to know?

Thanks.

It's confirmed that an Event Licence is OK for all entrants.

Looks very much like they weren't carried over in that case . . .

Correct, it seems P1 have refunded all non P1 teams, ie, if you're a current P1 team, taking part in their ongoing P1 series, you will not get a refund, just a credit note, if you were an independant entry with no connection to P1, you will get a refund, most of which I suspect have already been sent / received.

So, EVERYONE who intends taking part in the Cowes event needs to download the entry form, fill it in and return it to Mike Lloyd, PRONTO

Entry form can be found Here

There also appears to some confusion over racers who hold a RB08 licence. I had correspondence today from Annie saying there would be no discount, or free event licences for holders of RB licences, however, GM posted this just a few days ago;

For all Round Britain Licence holders - on investigation it would appear that the Licences issued to competitors for just the Round Britian expired at the end of the Event. However, the good news is that any crew who raced in the RB who can produce their RB licences at Race Control, will receive a free Event Licence to compete in this Event in any of the three Races.

For teams who did not compete in the RB you will be required to purchase an Event Licence from Race Control at the cost of £60.00 for any of the three races.

If you hold a national or full international licence or higher already, this covers you for this Event and you will not be required to pay any more.

I hope this answers all your questions.

Kind regards

So we need to get to the bottom of that one.

Wettpunkt.com watch with interest as Lloyd saves the day

Thursday 31st July 2008: Mike Lloyd, mastermind behind the 2008 Round Britain Race, has stepped in at short notice to take the helm of the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes following the failure of Powerboat P1 Management Ltd, the commercial rights holder, to attract entries.

The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes is one of the worlds oldest and most prestigious powerboat races and the event, planned for August Bank Holiday, was cancelled by P1 on Tuesday 29th July. In stepped Mike Lloyd, supported by the event organisers, the British Powerboat Racing Club, and within 24 hours the potential entry list had increased three-fold with a minimum of 35 craft expected to compete.

One of the possible new participants, though not yet confirmed, is Hannes Bohinc and his Wettpunkt.com team. For Bohinc, whose distinguished powerboating career includes victory in the 2003 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes, the involvement of Mike Lloyd adds a new dimension to the event and makes it a more attractive proposition.

“We may not race but yes, we are interested now that Mike is involved,” confirms Wettpunkt.com owner and throttleman, Hannes Bohinc. “He really understands powerboat racing and has the passion. We know that it will now be an event for racers based upon rules that can be properly understood and regulated.”

The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes has often been described as the ‘Le Mans of the sea’ and can be a gruelling endurance event for boats and pilots in very difficult waters. Bohinc, one of only six drivers to have won the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes twice and one of only ten who have won the Harmsworth Trophy more than once, knows more than most that to compete in the 200 mile adventure thorough preparation is essential

“There is a lot for us to consider at such short notice,” continues Bohinc. “We are very busy with our business and now very busy listening to phone calls from Mr Fabio Buzzi telling us that we must race in Cowes because he wants to beat us! We shall make a decision soon.”

Very many thanks to Jon Fuller and Johnny Rocket for ensuring clarification of the event is made public. Couldn't have done this without you guys. Just need more men with their boats to step forward to "have a go". The sight of the ENTIRE fleet, that's ALL classes, travelling down the Solent together under the start boats yellow flag at 30 knots (or so) will be something to behold and not to be missed.. It's not often in life that you get the opportunity to mix with the big boys and in this particular case say that you "raced" with the legendary Fabio Buzzi in probably his last race.

Just thought I would mention - given the last few rumours - I can spend my money on entering and running the CTC or I can spend my money on a lawyer.

Your choice.
