Kinpacifist my comment was not aimed at the guy's in production who achieved such a good result at Cowes, I obviously hope they have a great 2007 season racing under whatever sponsorship is available to them in P1

We are going to have a presence at the London Boat Show on Brian Peters "Azimut" stand No: 370. Come along and see us so we can fit faces to names. Also you can throw all your Round Britain questions at us. We are going to open up membership to the 2008 Round Britain International Offshore Powerboat Race at the same time but more details on that and lots of other stuff will be coming out on the web site shortly plus our December news sheet. The latest news on the rules will be published on the web site as well.
You have probably been thinking that we have been a bit quiet but a lot has been going on and the days just go by. See you at the show. ML.

So does the comitee seem confident that this event will have the momentum/sponsorship to run in 2008 & not need to move to 2009?

It'd be a shame to have it 'announced' at the LIBS if it did end up needing to be run in 09.

The answer to the first part of your question is "keep positive", 2009 in not in our vocabulary. The answer to the second part, we are not "announcing" the race, just showing a presence and an intention to do it, one way or another. When we have the sponsorship then we will announce it properly.

Nice new design for the P1 web site, however it did make me see red reading about Sunseeker quote.....in 2006 team Sunseeker finished 3rd overall with Sunseeker challenger, no mention of it was only at Cowes. P1 are really sucking up to sunseeker even stating the model which as I have said before other than a few bolt on bits is a Buzzi boat, wonder what the other team's who put in so much time and money think of it. I bet Sunseeker themselves put next to nothing in the pot, and I bet Braithwait was probably not even a spectator at Cowes. As I said before in no way do I have any bad things to say about the crew of the boat, that did an excellent job at Cowes, I am keeping my fingers crossed they ditch that boat and get something different for 07

You'll be disappointed by this then!

2007 P1 challenge confirmed by Team Sunseeker

Following their debut at the Powerboat P1 World Championships in Cowes in 2006, the Sunseeker Sales Group will be entering Team Sunseeker into the 2007 Powerboat P1 offshore race series with the aim to claim the title. Together with the crew experience gained last year, a number of technical refinements will also be made to ensure Team Sunseeker is a top contender.

The team finished third overall with Sunseeker Challenger, a race version of the Sunseeker XS2000, in the P1 Supersport Class category and are considered highly competitive.

To compete for the top prestigious title, Sunseeker Challenger is set to undergo significant technical refinements, which will further enhance performance, as well as a number of adaptations in the cockpit to ensure that Team Sunseeker have the smoothest ride possible when pushing the boat to the limit in the tough environment of the sea.

The team comprises of team manager, Mel Wilby, who has a wealth of racing experience having competed in more than 80 events since 1991; his son Andy Wilby, who is the driver and has a flair for powerboat racing and driven in every national race since 2000; throttleman Gavin Brown, whose expertise is in high speed powerboat rigging and who has held a powerboat racing licence since 2001. Finally engineer, Tony Davis, a marine engineer by trade who has a specialist knowledge of marine engines, sea trials and navigation.

Endurance is key to driver Andy's and throttleman Gavin's performance and in order to prepare for this year's race series personal trainers have designed tailored programmes to maximise their chances of success. Through participating in structured programmes Andy and Gavin will be suitably equipped to tackle the enormous physical and physiological challenges ahead.

Andy says: "We are very excited to confirm our commitment to race in the P1 series this year. It will be very competitive but we are a strong racing partnership and are ready to go for the Championship title for the Sunseeker Sales Group. The boat is being refined and extensively tested so it can continue to exceed our expectations when we compete in each race, and we are also training physically and physiologically as driving over stormy seas at speeds of over 70 knots is brutal and we need to be fully prepared."

Sunseeker is the only major powerboat brand to compete in the Powerboat P1 World Championships and managing director of Sunseeker Sales Group, Dominic Byrne, says: "We are proud that the Sunseeker brand is to be represented in the Championships this year. The Sunseeker Challenger really sets the standard for high-performance powerboating and provides the perfect platform for competitive racing and we look forward to going for the winning title this race season."
