With a bit of luck confirmed class rules, regs and safety details for the 2008 Round Britain Race will be posted on our web site by Tuesday evening. www.roundbritainrace.co.uk

This will allow those who intend taking part to work out in greater detail the specs for their boat entry re power, boat length and class. That's if you haven't done so already!

I have also laid out the entry fees!!

I have a list of the starters in the 1984 event but I don't have any info of how they finished. I will ask Tim Powell if he has any info from those days regardingt that.
Welcome aboard by the way. let me know when you can as to what boat you hope to run in.

I am afraid its now worse than that. because of having to cope with safety cover etc etc over such enormous stretches of water that speed has had to go up to 40 knots after discussions with the committee. But that is where it is going to stay I can assure you. Any boat today that can't do 40 knots shouldn't really be out there racing.
Hope you can make the race anyway. Let me know what boat and crew you intend running when you can. There's already a "Team Jersey" how about a "Team Guernsey"?

cool, you can persuade the rusty mincer to post my decent copy of the everest footage as well then.

I do love my existing DVD, but it gets tired keep hearing 'and heres the mercury mercruiser powered boat, utilising the realability, dependability and durability of its standard 5.7L mercruiser powerplants; exactly the same mercruiser engine you can buy from your local mercury dealer'

and breath!

That would be interesting and bring out the press. Team Jersey and Team Guernsey head to head Round Britain, err perhaps I should rephrase that, before Matt/Tony/Jon cuts me off.
The two teams could get excellent publicity and sponsorship from both Islands with that potential rivalry.
Not putting the pressure on you guy's of course!

Have just received from Jeff Hunton of Hunton Powerboats all the stats of every leg from the 1984 Round Britain. Will be posting that onto Boatmad next week via JF. In the meantime for those who don't think this is a real serious race have a look at the times of some of the boats on the 2nd leg (round lands end and up to Fishguard. Even some of the the 40 footers (Double 2 Shirts) took over 5.5 hours with some of the back markers taking 11hrs - an average of no more than 22 knots!! It tells you a little about the sea state that day. Also the high attrition rate of the number of boats that dropped out or didn't start on that particular leg.
Interestingly 2 x 34ft Sunseekers handled that O.K. as did Stewart's 25ft Revenger, Jeff's 28ft Hunton Gazelle and the two Phantoms, Brut and OCL/Suzuki.

does that say more about the types of people that owned the differing boats?
